I'm With You
Chrisjb (04/16/09)
Well I am intermediate stage 2, and given from last Sept 1.2 years. However for the last 4 months my blood counts have been stable, and tho I sleep for a 2 hour stretch most afternoons I am otherwise OK. Watch she doesn't cut herself, or she will bleed, and keeps away from infections or she'll catch them. Otherwise I am OK, in good spirits, and confident that I will live on far far longer than the end of this year. The first month was a bit wearing, exhausting and emotional, but since then I have come to realise that I may even live for ever. Folks do not die of MDS generally, one or more of their organs give up the ghost and the funeral director is called in. I've been in contact with lots of people who have survived for 3 and 5 years after diagnosis. It all seems terrible at first but then it eases off. I am not on any medication at all for MDS, and will on go on to Cytarabine if my counts all drop. So now I am planning trips to visit my family in June and july in Hong Kong and Dubai, and probably my wife's family in September in USA, Colombia and Buenos Aires, if the money holds up. Best of luck, and keep in touch Go to the long discussion started by Birdmom. 83 replies, and well worth reading. Some of these are people who have lived far longer than they expected !! Good luck and keep in touch. Christopher (chrisjb)
