Hi anyone. I had 2 low dose Gentamicin injections, one on Jan 17th and the second on Feb 14th
I haven't had any vertigo since then. I have Meniere's in my right ear and during this chemical oblation, I lost my auditory nerve along with my Vestibular nerve. I don't really care, as I was already 70% deaf in my right ear anyway. (plus I grew up with hi-fi and won't really miss stereo.)
My inner noises are still with me, but now that I know they aren't going to signal a vertigo onset, I am fine with them. (Sometimes I even use them to drown out boring people who talk to me.)
I am very happy right now. I had two margaritas this evening when my husband and I went out to dinner (a classic Margarita with salt around the rim and a Tropical Sunrise Margarita. My first alcohol in almost 2 years. I also had some baby back ribs (very salty), and what the heck, a molten chocolate volcano cake for desert along with a coffee that had about 5 different liquers in it. That was about 3 hours ago and yes, my noises are quite ramped up, but it really doesn't bother me like it used to. No more nausea and no more dizziness and NO MORE VERTIGO! And no more missed days at work!
The procedures were quite uncomfortable and I was out on disability for a total of 2 1/2 months during the recovery time, doing the balance exercises. I slept a lot during the first 1 1/2 months. I can now walk pretty good (fairly straight) although I do use a cane, just in case the left ear "lets go" control of my right side balance.
All seems very good in my life right now. I have had a lot of prayers for me by my friends and myself, and God has really blessed me.
