Close Crohn's Disease & Ulcerative Colitis
My 8 year old son has had Crohn's for 3 years now. Out of the last 3 years he has been symptom free for approx. 9 months. We have enjoyed 2 short remissions. He nearly died of a c-dif infection 1 1/2 years ago. Angelo has suffered with other bizarre symptoms that they do not necessarily attribute to his Crohn's. I have 5 children from 8 to 17. Angelo's illness has greatly affected our family's emotional health. It is very difficult to have a chronically ill child.
Treatments
- Asacol Working / Worked
- no seen side effects. takes because dr. wants him on anti-inflammatory
- Avoid Certain Foods / Chemicals Working / Worked
- it helps to avoid pain
- Dietary Modification Working / Worked
- There are certain foods that immediately give him gut cramping and pain. We also found he has nut and wheat allergies that we are cutting from his diet. He has severe reactions to beef, and preservatives in meat.
- Prednisone Working / Worked
- It helped once to bring on remission. The last time he became dependent and then resistant to the steroids.
- Probiotics Working / Worked
- this seems to be the one thing that is necessary to keep his crohn's in remission. Ran out of it a week ago while on vacation and he is already severely symptomatic.
- Remicade Working / Worked
- Worked for a time and we were very encouraged, but it quickly lost time in giving relief. After his 3rd or 4th treatment, he was only receiving a day of relief.
