back on track
OK, I am finally really back on track after the conference-as in several "good days" in a row. The doc had given me that diary to …
For my "patient story" go to: http://www.talkaboutsleep.com/third_tier/patient_stories_narcolepsy_marilyn.htm I have 4 children ages 26, 23, 23 and 11. And a lovely Russian daughter in law. (The pictures are from the wedding July-2008)I am looking forward to becoming a grandmother this Dec. I was a Social Worker for over 25 years. Now I own a neighborhood consignment shop, Second Impressions. Although I realized after diagnosis ( Jan. 2009) that I had had narcolepsy for over 20 years, I really consider last Fall (2008)as when I "got sick". Up to then I had been able to somewhat manage my symptoms with melatonin at night and a low dose of Prozac in the day. I also think that a low carb/high protein diet was a positive factor...I would say it had gotten very challenging for about 2 years before that. I also have sleep apnea. I discovered that women may develop sleep apnea when they get older due to all the body changes that occur. I suspect that the sleep apnea on top of the narcolepsy is what wiped me out. Note about sleep apnea- I am not over weight and I do not snore. My experience was that I went to sleep easily and slept through the night (with a my routine dose of melatonin which I had been taking for probably close to the same 20 years) My husband observed that I seemed to sleep soundly but my sleep study showed that my breathing was disrupted on the average of 31 times an hours-effectively knocking me out of deep sleep though very seldom waking me. Needed to take the opportunity to do some sleep apnea education too.

Thanks for the hug. I am studying sociology and I am planning on getting my MBA as well so I can open my own non-profit social service agency.
Thanks for the neat suggestions! I love drinking hot tea, etc, but i can't ever sit still long enough to drink any I make! I will get into the habit now. It's been challenging to get all the water I have to drink down in the first place, and the cafeine! Have a great day and I'd like to know more about how to find more of your suggestions from the site you have.....Amy
