A little Thursday Update Mood
Friday, July 24, 2009

I wrote a post about a month ago I mentioned that I was changing my diet based on a medical paper I had found about Cirrhosis not being a disease.

At the time I was suffering with both End Stage (terminal) cirrhosis and also Cachexia, a muscle wasting disease (untreatable and fatal) hich was doing its best to kill me before the cirrhosis did.

At that time (one month ago) i was losing 5lbs body mass per month and had been doing so since christmas time. Cachexia attacks the muscles as a source of energy because irrespective how much food is eaten (either orally or intravenously) the body cannot convert the food into energy.

Cachexia is common with people who have terminal diseases like heart, liver, kidneys, AIDS etc.

At my rate of losing weight I was looking at being pretty much bed-ridden by christmas 2009 and probably dead by March or April 2010. The cachexia was going to start destroying my kidneys and then my heart being a massive muscle, would not go undamaged.

I was not very happy about any of this.

That was one month ago.

Today, virtually all my symptoms of cirrhosis (fatal, untreatable) have gone. my doctor is at a loss to explain why. His words, "This just doesn't happen".

My cachexia (fatal, untreatable) has gone. As oppose to losing 5lbs per month every month I have regained 17.5lbs body mass in thirty days. My gaunt, skeletal features have gone away, my muscles, of which there weren't many left, have grown and I look and feel fitter today than I have done in years.

I have now regained sufficient weight to give me a BMI (body mass index) of 20.7 (normal) rather than 18.2 (underweight) 30 days ago.

So what has happened?

Was it my new regimen of vitamins and minerals?

Namely, B-Complex, COQ-10, Zinc and Calcium.

Was it an act of God?

My dear sister in Scotland has been holding prayer sessions for me and has sent me anointed silk handkerchiefs to lay with me, is convinced totally that it is the Lord's work.

All other friends prayers may have also contributed to this and I thank you!

My doctor today suggested that I may also have had a good dose of Alcoholic Hepatitis (fatal, untreatable) which as if by magic went away. In all the time I have been ill, hepatitis has never been mentioned!

Personally, I think it is the vitamins and minerals that have done it. Which perversely leaves me rather horrified. If I am right, then oh so many people are dying a horrible death, often needlessly because modern medicine has forgotten basic chemistry and alchemy and now would rather rely on the highly expensive MRIs, CT scans etc rather than treating patients with simple, known remedies.

The other horrible truth in all this is that modern doctors go by the book of accepted medical practice. They are not paid to think. Out of all the doctors/surgeons the paper has been shown to, none of them have been able to disagree with the papers findings. Yet I suspect none of them will adopt and use the findings of this article.

This, I find incredible.

As someone wrote today on a post on Daily Strength "Someone has to die to allow me to live".

If that doesn't chill you to the bone, I don't know what will.

That's great news Craig! I'm glad you're feeling better. I haven't been dx with cachexia but from reading your posts I think I may have it. For months now I've been steadily dropping weight and have been concerned by it. The doctor's reply is that's the Hep. What dosages are required on this regimen? I'd like to give it a try.

It's no secret Maggie, I just get our local supermarket (publix) own brand:
    B-Complex
    COQ-10
    Calcium
    Zinc

I take the dosages as given on the bottles. I have also started taking Glucosamine (3000mg x 2) to try and fix the constant joint pain I suffer. I suspect the Cachexia, like arthritis has damaged the cartilage in my joints.

I also eat 3-4 apples a day. Other than that, I eat what I want, when I want and don't restrict anything anymore.

I do measure my weight daily and record the results so that I can graph my progress. It is well worth doing.

Well, I am glad it is working and I am sure the treatment you found will eventually be useful for a lot of people. Medicine's advances are painfully slow.

Craig that is very informative and I will give it a try. If it werent for the ascitis and edema I would weigh nothing at all.
