I am a third-grade teacher and a mother of three. My husband of 25 years was killed in a motorcycle accident in Jan. 2009. I think I'm still partially in shock, but have enough sense to know I will need much support during this difficult life transistion.

Close Alcoholism
I am a recovering alcoholic with almost 11 yrs. sobriety. I got sober at a rehab center & attended AA consistently for about 8 yrs. I have not been attending meetings for almost 2 yrs.
Treatments
- 12 Step Program Working / Worked
- Co-dependents anonymous was moderately helpful.
- AA Meetings Working / Worked
- I owe my sobriety to AA for a wonderful foundation and support group.
- Residential Treatment Center Working / Worked
- Exactly what I needed to immerse myself in sobriety. Couldn't have done it on the outside.
Close Parenting Big Kids (5-8)
I am the mother of a five yr. old kindergartner. She was very close to her dad, whom she just lost to a motorcycle accident, yet is doing remarkably well.
Treatments
- Education (School) Working / Worked
- She is doing well in school and has not needed extra counseling or support as of yet.
- Listening Working / Worked
- My daughter loves to talk & I do my best to listen to her as much as possible.
Open Parenting Teenagers (12-18)
I have a 14 yr. old daughter who just lost her dad to a motorcycle accident. She was having a hard time before, & now behavior has gotten much worse. She is angry, defiant, & depressed.
Treatments
- Education (School) Not Working
- Her school doesn't appear to have any idea on how to handle a grief stricken teen-ager. She is failing all her classes & is on a suspended expulsion.
- Patience Not Working
- My patience with my teen has grown very thin. She is so disagreeable, dishonest, & angry I have little patience with her. Since the recent death of her father, I have retreated & try to stay away from her.
- Psychotherapy Too Soon to Tell
- I have my 14 yr. old in private counseling, but my insurance covers too few sessions, too far apart. She doesn't take her meds or try any of the therapist's strategies. I am looking for a grief support group for her.
Open Short Stature
I have been very short all my life and never grew past 4'8". I am not a dwarf or midget, and doctors never were able to give my parents an exact diagnosis.
Open Widows & Widowers
I lost my husband of 25 yrs. not quite 3 mos. ago. He was killed in a motorcycle accident & left behind an adult child, two minor children, and of course, me.
Open Bereavement
Type: Loss of a Partner/SpouseI lost my husband 3 mos. ago to a motorcycle accident. Both my parents also died when I was in my 30's. It's a scary & lonely place I'm in right now.

- Crying Working / Worked
- Great release.
- Grief Counseling Too Soon to Tell
- Only had one session so far.
- Keeping Busy Somewhat Helpful
- Good distraction, but only temporary.
- Psychotherapy Considering
- My teen is in therapy & I think I might need it too.
- Reading Somewhat Helpful
- Reading has always been a way for me to lose myself & relax.
- Remembering Working / Worked
- Even though it's somethimes painful, it helps release some of the power in my emotions.
- Support Groups Working / Worked
- This site is helping a lot.
- Talking Somewhat Helpful
- Feels good to talk about Bob, because it helps me remember the good stuff.
