Close Graves' Disease
In early 2008 I was diagnosed with Graves Disease. I was put on a beta blocker and a ATD. I felt great! At my three month follow-up with the endo, I was told that I had to have RAI to ablate. I was told I could not stay on the ATDs because it would destroy my liver and I would eventually go into heart failure - B.S.!! Terrified, I agreed. RAI triggered TED! After learning how to read my labs...I discovered that the ATDs had worked and brought my levels to mid range. I did not need RAI!!
Treatments
- Methimazole Working / Worked
- Worked very well.
- Radioactive Iodine Working / Worked
- Biggest mistake I've ever made! I was never given any options by the Endo. Who would have thought I would have had to question a "specialist"?
Close Hypothyroidism
Regrettably had RAI for graves. I now have hypothyroidism. Being HYPO SUCKS!
Treatments
- Synthroid Working / Worked
- Challenging trying to find my optimum dose. Keeps me from going into a coma, I guess.
