I recently began "working" as a hospice volunteer. This is something I've wanted to do ever since my Mother died from breast cancer.
I was her caretaker for 18 months. While it was a good experience and I have no regrets about that, I wish I had had support during that time. Both caretaker support and information about hospice.
The services that hospice care can provide would have made the quality of her life much better during her last 4-5 months.
A few years later I saw what such care did for my Father-in-law and his wife.
Losing a loved one is challenging enough. For those people in that process, their friends & family, why not get the best support and help possible?
One regret I have is that no one told me how close my Mother was to death. No doctor, no nurse, not even the hospice itself. We had plenty of time to say good-bye...just not an awareness of that.
My next post will be about what I wish I had talked to her about before it was too late. Questions about her and her life that I'll never know the answers to.
Maybe it will help someone else.

So glad you started a group....being a hospice volunteer shapes my life. Thanks!
