Thanks for your advice-sometimes I think the doctors are helping and then sometimes they don't understand. It's a work in progress. It's just really nice to have other people that do understand and give you support. Makes my day a little brighter :)

Hi Zeyda,
I became totally depleted this week. Hopefully after resting and trying to do some things for me, I will feel better. Thanks for the hug. Sandy -

Yes NZ is beautiful - south and north islands a bit different - south lovely dramatic mountains, valleys and quite empty. North has different kind of beauty. People pretty nice - possibly because relatively few of us (4 million most of whom live on north island and nearly a million in Auckland and surrounds. I am from place called Tauranga - cruise ships come into our nearby port and visitors head into Rotorua where lots of thermal activity. But pretty much all our scenery would be somewhere in the States as it is such a vast and varied country. I diagnosed RA three years ago. Was full time high school teacher and had to give up (had students writing on board as couldnt lift arms...) Put on mtx and although took a while to kick in worked ok for two years until elevated liver enzymes and migraines led me to stop it. Ok a couple of months then RA flaring. Was just on prednisone, vitamins and calcium. Has given problems with bone density though. Put on arava (lefleunamide) in January but didnt suit me so only pred n vits for last two months and pretty disastrous!. Suffering. Awaiting specialist appointment this week - going privately as no local state specialist currently (we mostly use state healthcare here because of size of country) But about to escape to UK for a couple of months as cold getting to me. Have friends/relative to stay with and hoping warmer weather will suit better as I usually find much less trouble when weather warm. I can see from this site though that a lot of people still have nasty flares in northern summer. Hmm. I think you will find the mtx will help you - it suits most people and I know of someone on it 20 years ok. Nothing I have heard of seems to take RA away completely. I admire you continuing working. Some days cant even drive and barely stagger round house. Guess we are both lucky we are not one of these 20 or so year olds with it. How dreadful to be diagnosed so early though I hear in UK there is a new treatment they are giving to young onset people which very expensive but supposed to really knock it. Watch this site I suppose - would have thought US right on to it.
