To chemo or not to chemo Mood
Tuesday, March 31, 2009 | An Anxious story

My first chemo treatment, estimated to take approximately 6 hours, is scheduled for the this coming Thursday.  The major portion of this six hours apparently is to be taken up with procedures and medications to alleviate the side effects of chemo.  My oncologist's nurse called this afternoon to let me know they'd neglected to prescribed three medications that I'm to have filled and bring with me to my first session.  Of course, being the curious and skeptical person that I am, I looked all three up on the internet.  You know, the internet is a very dangerous thing.  I discovered by visiting reliable websites that all three medications are meant to lessen nausea related to chemotherapy.

I wasn't thrilled with the chemo concept in the first place.  Now I learn that around 4 hours, and 3 prescriptions, are needed to help me avoid nausea?  What have I done?

Chemo can help you heal. My mom's cancer went into remission for a brief period due to her treatments. But it was grueling, and left her exhausted, depleted of all energy. Eventually the cancer won.... butmom was a fighter, Bless her heart! And never once complained.
