About Me
I am 36 years old and have was first diagnosed with thyroid cancer at the age of 30. I have had 3 surgeries and still am not cancer free. In feb. of this year I was diagnosed with CML. I was shocked to have another cancer. I am the mom of 2 great kids. My son is 12 and my daughter is 9. I also have a 3 year old Boxer named Bo. I love my family and am determined to beat this horrible disease.

Close Chronic Myelogenous Leukemia (CML)
I was diagnosed with CML in Feb. 2009. I am 36 & have had thyroid cancer since 2003 so the second cancer diagnosis came as a shock. I was looking for some support when I discovered this site. It is really helpful to talk to people who know how you feel. I have two great kids who are 9 & 12. They need their mom so I want to do all I can to get well. I hope during this journey I can help others as well. I try to stay positive and enjoy each and every day.
Treatments
- Gleevec Working / Worked
- I have had a hard time on Gleevec. The side effects were really bad at first. They are getting better as time goes on. I do have a lot of trouble sleeping and suffer from bone, joint and muscle spasms.
Close Thyroid Cancer
Type: Papillary CarcinomaI was diagnosed with Papillary thyroid cancer in 2003. I have has total thyroidectomy, 3 neck disections and 2 RAI treatments and am yet to have a clean bill of health. They are watching suspicious nodes. In Feb of 2009 I was diagnosed with Chronic Myeloid Leukemia.
Treatments
- Radiotherapy Not Working
- Unfortunately for me the RAI didn't work. I also have thyroglobulin antibodies. It makes it hard to detect when the cancer is back. I have to have ultrasounds regularley to look for cancer. I was diagnosed with CML (chronic myeloid leukemia) in 2009. They say one has nothing to do with the other but it makes me wonder. They do link to much RAI to certain leukemias. They say not the one I have so who knows.
