    Hi,

I was diagnosed with polycythemia 3 1/2 years ago.
I am 55 years old and had various symptoms for about 2 years before that.
I must admit it came as a bit of a shock but I decided to get on with my life and try to live with the symptoms and side effects and I am managing o.k. so far.
I sympathise with your husband as this is a horrible illness. I am on 1000mg of hydroxicarbamide per day and 75mg of asprin. When first diagnosed I had 10 units of blood removed then 1 unit every 6 weeks along with the medication. I found this very tiring and felt constantly ill. I still have blood off every 6 weeks but have become self employed grooming dogs, which I love. I do this in my own time when I feel well enough and this seems to be working fine. I have found this to be the answer for me, do what I can if I am o.k. and rest if I am not.
I hope this helps you and your husband and I would love to hear from you both.

Wendy, that was so funny about the seven dwarves of menopause. You made me laugh and laugh, so I am sending some sunshine to you.
