Close Meniere's Disease
I'm 45. I was diagnosed with Meniere's at 33. Kept it under control with low sodium diet and meclizine until last year. Had a severe downturn, lost a lot of weight (no appetite), and a great deal of my hearing (right side). I am still unstable a lot of days. Have been using the Meniett for more than a year, with low-dose Valium. Also trying an anti-inflammatory diet and accupuncture.
Treatments
- Antivert Working / Worked
- I used it for several years until my most recent downturn.
- Low Salt Diet Somewhat Helpful
- Helped a tremendous amount when I was first diagnosed 13 years ago.
- Meniett Somewhat Helpful
- It is hard to tell if it is working because there are so many other variables. I do seem to notice more fullness/pressure when I miss using it.
- Valium Working / Worked
- A last resort for me. I hate taking it. It does help, but has dangerous side-effects. For example, if you have Meniere's in one ear, valium can make the balance components of the other ear become lazy.
- Anti-Inflammatory Diet Working / Worked
- Seems to help. No red meat no wheat no dairy etc. Basically an allergy elimination diet. Managing allergies seems to reduce the Menieres symptoms but will not cure it.
