I am glad that at least the dialysis problem has gone away. I know what you mean about the dementia. It was very hard for my mother-in-law to communicate her needs when one of the family was not there. It was a strain on us to try to be there as much as we could. I wish you all the best and will be praying for you and your father.

Thanks for writing. She did seem a bit better yesterday but I may have to put one of her dogs down today, will sew what the vet says.

Yes. she does have the alarm and her mattress is different, it is like she is lying in a box lid with very short sides. I am going to see her today, did not go yesterday. Was also informed she has a URI so maybe that accounts for some of this. Thanks for writing.

Thank you for your encouragement, it came at the right time, ODDLY ENOUGH, he just had his first "slappy fight" with his son. Dad wanted to go outback and play with the hound dogs in the rain with his socks on only. yanno..sometimes you just have to laugh.

My 81 year-old father had a stroke 1.5 years ago and suffers from vascular dementia. His dementia is compounded by the fact that he was left with global aphasis after his stroke, and can't clearly communicate what he is feeling.

      Treatments

      Namenda Working / Worked
      Didn't work.
      Risperdal Working / Worked
This drug was first given to my father in an out-patient psychiatric facility to control his behavior. He was given the drug along with Depakote. It didn't change my father's behavior. However, he does get a small dose of Risp. along with his Seroquel every day.
      Seroquel Working / Worked
The only drug that has helped with my father's mood swings. It used to make him tired but doesn't anymore.
      Zyprexa Working / Worked
      didn't wrok
    • Close Aphasia

My father survived a massive stroke almost two years ago and is now a global aphasic.

    • Open Dialysis

81 year-old father who has dementia and is a stroke survivor, is back in hospital with bladder/uti infection. They want to give him emergency dialysis but I'm not sure if this is the route we should go.
