    • About Me

I'm 17 years old and I'm currently attending a therapeutic boarding school in northwestern Montana. I've been working through a lot of my issues in therapy and I feel generally a lot happier now than I did before. Generally, I'm a pretty easygoing person and I really love making new friends and giving advice. Please message me because I'm new here and I don't quite know how everything works (and I don't have any friends... lol).

    • Interests

Running, biking, hiking, rafting, rock climbing, basically anything outdoors, as well as writing, reading (I'm kind of a nerd because I really like school), talking to people, laughing, acting (I'm really interested in theater and want to do it in college), animals, and people!

    • Cause of Recent Pain

      Mood April 11, 2009 2:18am

So my mom called the doctor today to find out the results of the CT scan I got last week.  It turns out, the pain I've been experiencing is …

    • Close Scoliosis

My scoliosis was first discovered when I was in fifth grade. The S-curve eventually measured over 25 degrees so my doctor put me in a Boston brace. After only 3 months, they discovered it wasn't working. By the time I went in for surgery, the measure of the curves were 72 and 78 degrees. I was operated on by Dr. Howard King at St. Luke's hospital in Boise, Idaho and stayed there for five days. My surgery was very successful and reduced the curve measurements to about 12 and 14 degrees.

      Treatments

      Brace Not Working
Lasted 3 months and didn't slow down the growth of the curve at all. Side effects included embarrassment around my peers, uncomfortable sweating and itchiness, holes in my clothing, and going up 4 pant sizes.
      Harrington Rods Working / Worked
The surgery only lasted an hour and a half and was very successful. I have experienced a little pain recently because I've become very active with running but I am satisfied with the surgery.
    • Close Depression - Teen

Basically I started getting depressed freshmen year of high school. I started cutting and I had an eating disorder for about a year before I attempted suicide three times and entered the hospital twice (inpatient psychiatric unit). After this I went to an RTC (Residential Treatment Center) in Utah and I was there for ten months. I am now at a therapeutic boarding school and looking at going home in June for good. I feel much happier and better about myself.

      Treatments

      Celexa Not Working
I was on it for about 8 months but it didn't help.
      Meditation Working / Worked
I discovered meditation/yoga in my life and this has been very helpful and calming.
      Music Working / Worked
Happy music really boosted my spirits.
      Pets Working / Worked
Pets always made me happier/in a much better mood. They always seem to calm me and ground me.
      Positive Thinking Working / Worked
Hard to do, but very helpful once you get the hang of it!
      Prozac Working / Worked
Has worked pretty well but I'm hoping to go off it because it's causing tiredness throughout the day (I've been on it for 2 years)
      Psychotherapy Working / Worked
One of the best treatments that really helped me.
      Risperdal Not Working
Definitely didn't work. Caused double vision.
Support from Friends & Family Working / Worked
      Most important.
      Talking Working / Worked
      One of the best treatments.
      Trazodone Somewhat Helpful
Used as a sleeping med. Worked pretty well.
      Writing Working / Worked
      Extremely helpful.
    • Open Eating Disorders
      Type: Anorexia

When I was a freshmen in high school I began to get very depressed. Eventually I started to starve myself in an effort to inflict pain and punishment on my body. I lost over 20 pounds (I was not overweight to begin with) and I went into the hospital (I was admitted for other reasons) so I was closely monitored and weighed every day. The hospital didn't help and it took for me to enter an RTC to finally beat the anorexia.

      Treatments

      Celexa Not Working
      Group Therapy Working / Worked
      Prozac Working / Worked
      Psychotherapy Working / Worked
Residential Treatment Center Working / Worked
This finally demolished the eating disorder.
