      • Close Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome (PCOS)

No definite diagnosis, but the symptoms fit. Trying to conceive, full of questions and wondering where to go from here.

        Treatments

        Metformin Too Soon to Tell
I just started taking it, feeling a little nauseous with minor abdominal discomfort and seemingly having some issues with my blood sugar as well. But that could also be from my being sick. We'll see what happens.
        Oral Contraceptives Working / Worked
I was on several of these pills over the past 15 years and was pretty regular with my cycle. I went off them about 7 months ago in the hopes of conceiving, but things have not gone according to plan. In some ways I wish I were back on them, but I want a baby more than my monthly visits from "Ma tante Rose"
        Provera Somewhat Helpful
I started on this first when I was fairly young in the hopes of regulating my cycle. I had one every other month, but there was a lot of issues attached and was switched to oral contraceptives which worked much better.
      • Close Anxiety

Diagnosed with anxiety/panic disorder several years ago. Tried several methods of treatment and am currently doing ok, but there are still some days when it gets the best of me and I need a little support.

        Treatments

        Breathwork Working / Worked
I mostly concentrate on my breathing and doing slow, steady breaths. It keeps me from hyperventilating and gives me something to focus on during moments of high anxiety.
        Lexapro Somewhat Helpful
It worked for awhile and then didn't seem to do much. I'm not sure if it was just the dosage or if it just wasn't right for me.
        Meditation Working / Worked
Much like the breathing exercises, it gives me something to focus on and helps to relax me. Very helpful before bed and those times when you're stressed out and can take a few minutes to do some of the techniques.
        Paxil Somewhat Helpful
It worked for awhile and then didn't seem to do much. I'm not sure if it was just the dosage or if it just wasn't right for me.
        Positive Thinking Somewhat Helpful
This one goes hand-in-hand with the cognitive therapy. I find thinking positively is a little difficult, especially if I'm trying to deal with physical aspects of an anxiety attack. Thinking positive is not always realistic, but if you can find something positive about the situation it does help to a certain degree.
        Xanax Somewhat Helpful
It seemed to help with the general anxiety and helping me to relax, but it developed into a habit and the results were not exactly positive.
        Zoloft Somewhat Helpful
It worked for awhile and then didn't seem to do much. I'm not sure if it was just the dosage or if it just wasn't right for me.
      • Open Family Issues

        Treatments

        Music Somewhat Helpful
Sometimes I can lose myself in the music and the feelings pass. But most of the time, once the music stops, the issues are still there and the feelings return almost immediately.
        Psychotherapy Too Soon to Tell
I've been bounced from one counselor to the next over the years without any real therapy. I just recently started seeing another one but its too soon to tell if she'll be more helpful than the others.
        Talking Working / Worked
Being able to talk to people about the issues is helpful, but only if they remain somewhat neutral or can understand where you're coming from.
        Writing Somewhat Helpful
I've kept a journal for years, but I haven't kept up on it. I don't write in it daily and often I'm left still thinking about the issues, the same issues over and over, without finding any solutions.
      • Open Trying To Conceive

Because of PCOS its been a difficult time TTC and every month it seems I go through the range of symptoms only to be disappointed. My husband is very loving and supportive, but he doesn't really understand what it is I'm going through.

        Treatments

        Metformin Somewhat Helpful
I started out at a dose of 1000mg twice per day but the side effects started bothering me more and more the longer I was on it. I went off it for a month then my gynecologist put me on a dose of 500mg three times per day. The side effects havent bothered me as much but I have been getting mock early pregnancy symptoms every month and still no AF on a regular basis.
        Progesterone Working / Worked
Since the Metformin doesnt seem to be working as we had hoped every few months I take Progesterone for about 10 days to induce a withdrawal bleed. Usually I see AF within a week after taking the last pill but only a couple times has she returned the next month on her own.
