I went on a service call today to check a light that was sizzling in an old '74 model mobile home way out on the base of the mountain! When I arrived , I heard a man say " You get it , you called him!" obviously drunk! The door opened, there standing in worn out sweats was a woman , lips blue and chapped and not groomed! As I went in , it was apparent this home was neet as a pin except around a worn out and grossly nasty recliner in which this drunkin slob was sitting in his underwear! I followed the lady through the home as we came through the kitchen , I found two little boys huddled next to the open oven on broil! It was obvious they camped out there last night as it was 11 F last night! She showed me the lamp and I repaired it's cord and receptacle! We talked abit and I found that they had no Kerosene for their furnace and the stove and a radiator heater next to the slob was all the heat they had! One of the boys opened the refrigerator and I saw no substantial food there, only Busch light beer! As I was headed out to the living room , I noticed that smell of melting rubber , electricians always notice this smell. I looked around and saw the cord on the heater was melting! I repaired that under the gruntling of a drunk. I was packing up and the lady came over with a few dollars and a pickle jar full of coins! She asked how much she owed me, I told her only a hug! She looked at me with sad eyes and hugged my neck! As I was heading to town , it troubled me! I called the guys and told them to round up 5 gallon cans and told them the story! We met at the store in Hickory Tree and talked to my buddy that runs that to help! We filled 5 jugs and took them out to the home, we were putting them into the tank as the lady looked out the door with astonishment, I motioned her to close the door to keep it warm till the sediment died down and we could start the furnace! We were coming from behind the trailer when we looked up and the girls had gotten their heads together and gone to the grocery store and they hollered for help carrying bags ! They had bought a ton of groceries for this family! As we were leaving there, we got a hug from the mom and the two boys, the slob had passed out! You know it was funny , but the lady told Robin, Charley’s girl friend , she wasn’t sure why she called me , just something had made her pick me from the yellow pages! ( I have no ad anymore, just a listing)! It was also funny, she never asked how much it would be, just asked how much she owed me! The guys never said another word about it on the way back in! No need! We met back at the shop on our bikes and took a short ride! It’s great to ride in our mountains, even when it’s 41F! We got back and Dena had cooked up a mess of chili and we sat and ate and watched Mississippi State kick LSU’s tiger tails! I know it’s a little easier to do this in my little corner of east Tennesee but if you look around and pay attention, there are families all around us that need help right here at home! Do your part to lend a helping hand today!

Mike, God Bless you and your friends! I pray you all have a blessed day! John 3:16

You will be blessed ten fold for what you did. And your friends will also be blessed. As you said there are people in every neighborhood that could use a helping hand. We go about our lives working and going the best we can and sometimes an opportunity comes along for us to step up and help.
Thank you for sharing this story and I agree we all need to help whenever possible.
XOXO pat

I love that you and your friends did this, Mike. It really shows the beautiful spirit in all of us, which you seem to have in abundance!
