About Me
Self employed tool sharpener past 20 years or more. Veteran submariner. Passion for gardening and tea. Fairly good resiliance and attitude towards life and my disease. Looking at shutting down my shop and not being able to garden for a while for the stem cell process, quite the balancing act between trying to not burn healt care bridges and still take big bites out of life. Close Multiple Myeloma
Multiple myeloma 5 course of velcade/dex and monthly zometa fairly good results . Male 54 no other real health issues
Treatments
- Dexamethasone Working / Worked
- This is the shut up and smile drug because if you are any kind of curmudgeon or cynical by nature look out! A few days without good sleep on the 4 days of 40mg and some tired leg muscles. Be extra kind to everyone or shut up and smile on this drug.
- Velcade Working / Worked
- Started round six yesterday as my treatment to get ready for the next phase the autologous stem cell transplant. Round five was a bit rougher than round four so I imagne that like most types of chemo it gets a little harder the longer you consume these poisons. Great response so far (near complete response) should bode well for the next things to come. Annoyng that they take 3 tries to start an IV, yesterday even bent a needle! Sliding veins, thicker blood, etc, -but as long as we walk out the door with the good stuff infused I'm game.
- Zometa Too Soon to Tell
- No lytic lesions entering treatment, preventative thus par and some anecdotal chemo effect according to the oncologists. First dose may feel like the flu for half a day or so. Maybe worse if you were never rough and tumble.
