About Me
I currently work as a social worker and I am married to a wonderful man. Our kids are two felines, but we hope to have some of the human variety eventually. Although things are relatively good now, life has not been easy. I was sexually abused by my brother from age 6 to age 12, when I became pregnant with his child. I had my son two months after I turned 13 and had to give him up for adoption. After that experience I struggled with alcohol for a number of years. I finally got sober my senior year in college. I moved back to Seattle for grad school and was doing reasonably well until a guy I was seeing raped me. My world shattered. I became extremely depressed and wanted to die. One night I took an overdose of sleeping pills and hoped I'd never wake. My roommate found me and I was hospitalized for a month. When I was 29 I relapsed after 7 years of sobriety. I drank for 5-6 months and returned to AA. I now have 3.5 years sober. I was diagnosed with fibromyalgia in 2003. In March of 2005 I had a back surgery for a herniated disk, which helped a lot. June 2006 is when I was diagnosed with rheumatoid arthritis. Somehow I re-injured my back and had to have a second back surgery in Dec 2008. They fused the vertebrae this time so hopefully that will be the last time I have surgery on my back. My RA has been fairly well controlled with my medications up to this point, but has recently become much more painful.

Hiking, camping, kayaking and hanging out in nature. I enjoy spending time with friends and family and absolutely love traveling and music. I'm a cat person, but I love all animals.

Sympathy
You have done a wonderful job of handling a truly horrendous life situation. I'm not going to share my story because today is about you. What I will tell you is that it's gotten so much better as I get older. It doesn't make the RA all better - we can only wish for that. I know I had a personal reaction of anger. How could this be happening to me after the life I've had? It just isn't fair. I don't have all the answers but I'm here if you ever want to talk or just want some tea and sympathy. You've been so brave and I applaud you.

i was abused by my older brother from age 6 to age 12. the abuse ended because i was pregnant. i ended up giving birth two months after my 13th birthday & gave my son up for adoption. he will be 19 this month. at age 23 i was raped, an experience that completely pushed me over the edge. now i am 32 and married. the problem is that i am so wigged out about sex that it is really impacting my relationship...
