My nephew, Marco had an AVM rupture on Nov 6 2008. He was in coma for 4 weeks and to date he can track with his eyes. He can answer with yes and no by looking at the flash cards, nod and shake his head for yes & no and also do thumbs up on both hands. He can say 'Hi' but with a great effort. He is on trachy because he needs suction still. He seems to be sleeping a lot during the day and because of the slow progress his making, the doctors think he could be in this lock-in stage forever.
