I'm 55 years old and have been going through menopause since I turned
50 years old. I, too, have hot flashes all the time. It's worse, though living
here in Houston, where the climate is usually hot and humid! I just

Close Fibromyalgia
Have had fibro since Aug 1999. On total LTD since May 2000. Receiving LTD and SSDI. Housewife, in my 50s, sad I can't work anymore but making due with the 3-4 hours of active time a day I have
Treatments
- 5-HTP Somewhat Helpful
- Seems to help mood and weight loss a bit....not sure, though
- Acupuncture Not Working
- Tried several times; did NOT work for me. Very relaxing! But didn't help my pain level overall.
- Aqua Therapy Working / Worked
- Yes, this worked for me during my worst flare-up, but it took 6-8 weeks of treatment and the nearest 'hot pool' is an hour away. Not something I can do all the time!
- Cyclobenzaprine Not Working
- Did not help me
- Duragesic Patch Working / Worked
- Yes, I use these on my back during flare-ups or when I've overdone it. Seems to help somewhat
- Effexor Not Working
- Tried several years ago...did NOT work for me.
- Elavil Working / Worked
- Yes, this taken at bedtime helps me stay asleep (I need Ambien to GET asleep, though)
- Guaifenesin Working / Worked
- Yes, but S-L-O-W-L-Y (like water over rocks!) I've been on increasing dosages since 2000 (under my M.D., a physiatrist's, care). If I stop taking I get worse, but dosage has to increase VERY gradually or I get a flare up.
- Lyrica Not Working
- Tried in 2008. DID NOT WORK for me. Made me so dizzy I could hardly see straight!
- Ultram Not Working
- Also tried, several years ago. Had a bad allergic reaction....hives, swelling of the face, awful.
