Your words or encouragement can't come at a better time for me. Thank you. My kids are 8 and 2 1/2 yrs. I have so much to do in life and want so bad to live so I am determined to fight. I am so glad to hear someone has lived longer than 6 years. Do you take Gleevc now? Have you had to have a bone marrow transplant? Did the interferon just work completly for you. I have so many questions that no one can answer for me. I am trying to get better emotionally. How long does it take to stop crying? I am a strong person but this is very trying for me but I will be better soon. I am not telling my kids because they would not understand and I don't want them to worry. Is that good to do? Thanks again for the shimmer of hope put in my day.

    • Close Chronic Myelogenous Leukemia (CML)

Diagnosed Jan 11, 1995. Treated for three years with Interferon--rough going but it pulled me through. One very short relapse about five years ago; back in remission. Wanted to join a discussion group to see if there are many long-term survivors like me. Most of my friends have died. I'm fourteen years out and still kicking! Any other long-timers out there?

      Treatments

      Chemotherapy Working / Worked
Interferon--very hard on me. Got jaundice, many infections, ulcers in my mouth, so tired I could barely stand up, got really really scarily skinny. BUT, after three years I was in remission!
      Hydroxurea Not Working
Took this first; thought I was losing my mind. Couldn't concentrate, the smallest things confused the heck out of me. I'd be driving and didn't know where I was...it was terrifying and I demanded a switch to something else.
