Close Pulmonary Embolism

I've been on Loestrin BC for menses & got a blood clot in a varicose vein. Dr told me to elevate leg, heat pad & Advil. Few weeks later I ended up in the emergency room. Confirmed with PE. They assumed the clot broke from my leg & traveled to lungs. I was in for a week on Hep IV & then introduced to Coumadin. Following up with a vascular surgeon learned that there was a blood clot in my arm too & that was the cause of PE. I was told to never take BC pills of any kind forever.

Treatments

Heparin Working / Worked

I was on a Heparin IV at first in the hospital. A few days later they took me off the Heparin IV & started the Coumadin regimen. I remained in the hospital until my INR was between 2.0 - 3.0 which was the safe zone. I was told not to take my BC the first night. That resulted in my mens to begin in the hospital which it was extremely heavy and painful cramps like before I was taking BC pills. It wasn't a good experience.

Coumadin Working / Worked

Ive been on Warfarin 4 mg x 1 a day for a month my mense has started again.Extra heavy the 1st daynot normal for me.Spoke with Dr was told my 1st period will be extreme since Im off the BC pills.Told it was ok to take Iron as long as I dont take the Coumadin at the same time at least 2 hours apart as Iron will bind with Coumadin if taken together.Dr also told me if it doesnt stop in 7 days to make apptmay have to be put on a drug to stop the mensethings are not looking up right now.
