I love working with kids with autism. My job is to diagnose and help set up programs. I consider myself an advocate for their needs and getting them the best services at school that I can.

ABA Working / Worked

This is very good in tracking the effectiveness of behavioral interventions. ABA is the most researched based tool to use.

Avoid Certain Foods / Chemicals Too Soon to Tell

Many parents of children I work with report using this. Some report success and some report not seeing any success. I think it depends on the child. I would definitely try it. Most of the parents report trying a wheat free/Gluten free diet.

Behavior Management Working / Worked

Very helpful if underlying cause or function of the behavior has been identified.

Early Intervention Working / Worked

This is the best intervention but only if the early interventions are individualized and research based -good interventions.

Facilitated Communication Not Working

Independent Living Skills Working / Worked

This is a must from an early age.

Occupational Therapy Working / Worked

helps with sensory processing and fine motor

Patience Working / Worked

Patience is essential

Picture / Word Schedules Working / Worked

very helpful -a must- The world of a child with autism is so chaotic for them that the comfort in knowing what will happen next and having control over that schedule is very comforting.

Sign Language Too Soon to Tell

Children I work with use this with their parents and the parents report it as being successful. The problem is that it does not lend itself to later transition and independence because most of the rest of the world does not know sign language.

TEACCH Working / Worked

This helps the child to self-initiate tasks. It fosters independance.
