As you probably know from my status update, Nate was appointed an appellate lawyer. We will get to meet with her sometime early May, after she meets with Nate. Heard from another lawyer that this lawyer is good, she has had six murder convictions overturned on appeal. We will make up our minds about whether to go with her or hire someone else after we meet and talk with her. From the brief conversation i had with her on phone, i think we'll like her... seems to be concerned with protecting Nate's remaining rights and avoiding tainting any possible witness or evidence that could enable Nate to get a new trial. She also sent us some info. on some of the cases she has worked on and alittle background information on herself. We also liked another lawyer that we talked to before Nate was appointed one. Although he doesn't have experience with criminal defense , he was a top prosecuter[so maybe he will recognize someof the b.s. the D.A.pulled for what it is,and he would also know whether the D.A. met their burden of proof or made serious mistakes.] Nate also needs to have input in this decision.
Haven't been posting or checking in too often lately, never seems to be enough time to get everything done. i have been trying to read posts and catch up with how everyone is doing .but don't get too much computer time at home lately because, we watch our grandson during the day. I managed to squeeze in some time here at work today.... doesn't happen too often . Can't wait to go back to working a day shift, maybe then life will have some resemblence to normal. All i know is that i can't go on with the broken sleep pattern anymore , i am exhausted all the time. It will also be nice to have at least one meal [supper] that we eat as a family.

Hi, Bernie...I wish you good luck with choosing a lawyer. We made a BIG mistake with Eddie's attorney. Chose one out of the damn phone book and they referred us to someone else. We didn't get references and never questioned his procedures. I wish we had. Please make sure you check them out thoroughly..........Love, Barbara

Yes, we should have gotten a different lawyer for Nate's trial but we didn't know any better at the time. Should have trusted my gut instincts when i saw his disorganization during trial, coming in just before the judge appeared, not being able to find papers he needed, hate to say it but i was impressed by the organization the D.A. showed. the only good thing was that his lawyer made lots of objections, and was hampered alot by the judge. [that part was not good] Now, all we can do is pray we make a good choice on his appeal lawyer even though the odds on winning an appeal are pretty small.

No one knows better the tricks of the DA's trade than an ex DA, I imagine. But experience with the type of case is important too. Just go with your gut. Good luck, I know how important this is for you. All my wishes and support for the best outcome possible. Stay positive.
