I am a 57 year old grandma of 9. I have Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome, Arnold-Chiari, diabetes, 7 herniated disks in my spine and chronic pain. I gave up on my nursing career a few years ago. Tried to work as an Administrative Assistant but was unable to do that due to pain. Am fighting with SSD having been turned down twice at this point. I live with my husband of 38 years and two chihuahuas.

Hi! Welcome to DS!!! I am fairly new myself (Dec2008) & I love this site. I have already "met" some wonderful people & made some good friends. It is also a great place to ask for advice. Close Chronic Pain
I am a 57 year old grandma of 9. I have chronic pain with Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome, Arnold Chiari, DM and 7 herniated disks in my spine. I live with my hubby of 38 years and my two chihuahuas. I am a retired nurse.
Treatments
- Acupressure Somewhat Helpful
- Helped
- Chiropractic Adjustment Working / Worked
- Neurosurgeon will not allow me to have chiropractic anymore. It did help though
- Cymbalta Working / Worked
- Helped but lots of unwanted side effects, anemia, weight gain
- Flexeril Working / Worked
- Makes me so sleepy
- Heat Working / Worked
- helps
- Hydrocodone Not Working
- didn't work.
- Lidoderm Not Working
- Not much help
- Morphine Working / Worked
- I take a maintanence dose of 30mg twice daily. It does knock the edge off.
- Neurontin Working / Worked
- whoa! Weight gain!!!
- Oxycodone Working / Worked
- Take for break through pain.
- Physical Therapy Working / Worked
- Helps but hey, you can't go for the rest of your life.
- TENS Somewhat Helpful
- Used more when I worked. It at least helped take my mind off of the pain.
- Topamax Working / Worked
- Helped but couldn't tolerate the side effects.
- Epidural Injection Working / Worked
- Helps a lot. I usually have about 3 a year.
Close Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome
Was diagnosed with EDS 2 years ago but have had symptoms for over 30 years. I knew something was wrong! I have chronic pain and 7 herniated disks in my neck and thoracic spine.
Open Degenerative Disc Disease
I'm a 57 year old grandma of 9. I have chronic pain from DDD, Arnold-Chiari Syndrome and Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome. I have worked as a nurse for 30 years. Two years ago I was no longer able to keep up with the daily running of nursing so took a job in a doctor's office as an Administrative Assistant thinking that it would be easier on me. I worked it for 1-1/2 years and was unable to do it either due to pain in my neck, shoulders, arms and back.
