Hi Marie, Thanks so much for the Good Luck Wish. I'll let you know how I make out. You are so right about this leukemia being a drag. I never knew how expensive you life can be until I was diagnosed with this. Between co-pays, doctor appointments and tests...I'm going broke. Thank God I have insurance, but it's still unbelieveable how much money one pays out to keep their life going. Oh well, hopefully I get some good news. I'm off work today, however it's so hot outside, I don't feel like doing anything..lol. Have a great day and I'll write to you soon letting you know what the new doc says. Karen

It has been a while! I have been having a crazy time here lately. I recently became the temporary guardian of two little girls. Their mom is a drug addict. So the stress level has been high to say the least. All will get better though... just trying to be patient. How are you doing??

Thanks Marie, I'm hanging in there. I'm in Reading, so I've been treating at St. Josephs Cancer Center. I know what you mean about the bone pain. I have it too, but I take DayPro (another anti-inflammatory) for my neck problem, which I have had for years, so they help the bone pain. The worse side affect I had was the dirreaha, but that started to get alot better, but now, since I'm stopping the Gleevec, I will probably go thru those side affects again. I never had tearing, but I had dry eye. That was aweful too, in fact I still can't wear my contact lens for long periods of time. I was so happy my counts were really getting in line, but I knew my WBC was going down, down, down, so I had a feeling it was going to come to me stopping the Gleevec for a few weeks. Hopefully it won't be for too long. I had blood work done today...I'm anxious to see if any of the counts changed being off the Gleevec since Tuesday. I know that isn't long, however it only took the counts to start going down days after starting the drug, so maybe the same thing will happen going off the drug. I'll keep you posted and thanks for writing. Have a good weekend. I'm off to the Phillies Game on Sunday. I certainly hope the rain stops and they WIN the game! Take care.

Thank you Marie! I am definitely doing so! I took the kids out to the pool today, but I sat in the shade. :( I am not used to that... I wanted to be in the sun and in the water, but we have triple digit temps right now so probably not the best of ideas.

Thanks Marie for your comments in my journal. I will be asking the doctor about the iron test. I actually thought about that, but I assumed with the CBC, the iron would be tested. I guess I shouldn't assume. I also have a tyroid problem, so maybe that could be it too. I guess I'll have to ask them to do the TH level. I am a little concerned about the platelet count because this weekend, I started getting little red dots on my chest area and legs. I was reading up on it and that is common with a low platelet count, so I'm keeping an eye on that. Otherwise, I've had a pretty good weekend all around, so maybe I'm eating the right foods to keep the diarreha away. It just seems like it is always something different day by day. One day I feel great and the next day I feel so worn down. I guess this is what it's going to be like the rest of my days on this great earth...lol. Have a good week.

That's great!! I found out my chromosome counts are down to 99.8%! I am excited, but not like I thought I would be. Maybe it just hasn't sunk it all the way yet... Maybe tomorrow will be better. :)

Hi Marie! I am doing well for the most part. Recovering from a vicious virus, I may have to go in tomorrow to have my blood rechecked. I also get my results from the chromosome test tomorrow. I am excited about that one! How are things going with you?? I hope all is well. Nice to hear from you and I'll talk to you soon.

Hi Marie, I know this is a week late, but CONGRATS on the good news from the doc. It really is a relief getting news that the Gleevec is working. I haven't been online for quite a while....I'm going to the doc next week and I am very anxious. I'm feeling much better myself...the side affects of the Gleevec are subsiding, so that's a GREAT thing. Take care and keep up the good work with the meds!
