Both of my kids have eczema, related to food allergies. My son's is severe. My daughter is still pretty young, but she definitey has it. We've seen several dermatologists and and allergist and tried conventional and natural treatments. At this point, I use whatever seems to work. Thankfully, my son's seems to be under control on his current regimen. I guess I am just looking forward to knowing some other people who live with this very visible skin issue.
Treatments
- Aloe Vera Somewhat Helpful
- Didn't irritate, but didn't provide much moisture.
- Elidel Working / Worked
- We use on DS's face. Keeps his facial skin clear, smooth and moist. We've been using it since he was 4-6 months old. On the rest of his body, it helped to a degree, but his doctor wnted to reduce the use since he was/ is so small/young.
- Elocon Working / Worked
- Used on DD in conjunction with antibiotics to clear up bad flares for about 10 days. It worked; however, it is designed for shrt term use.
- Hydrocortisone Working / Worked
- We use this on DD's eczema spots and mixed with a moisturizer to reduce itching as needed. I dislike the discoloration of the skin that occurs with use.
- Protopic Somewhat Helpful
- Used briefly for DS as an alternative to Elidel. The effects were somewhat comparable for us.
- Triamcinolone Topical Somewhat Helpful
- Used on DS as a baby to clear up major flaring all over his body in conjunction with antibiotics or steroids. Also used as our "big gun" on and as needed basis. Worked well at first, then began to thin and soften his skin. Kind of scary - not one of my favorites.
