HI figling. I enjoyed your comments on the post about the itching throat. Then I looked at your profile, and I think we may get along great. I don't have GP that I know of, but I do have LPR/GERD, and am finding this diet to be a challenge, to say the least. (We're pretty close politically, too...) I'd be glad to have you as a friend if you'd like. Have a good day! Hugs, Sue

    • Close GERD & Heartburn

Have had IBS since I was 19. Developed GERD after taking Fosamax 15 years ago. Also have LPRD. Have noticed over the last few years that even though I'm average size, I get a big stomach at the end of the day. Recently gained 8 lbs. and couldn't lose it even on a 1200 calorie diet. Took a gastric emptying test a few weeks ago and found out I have moderate to severe gastroparesis, probably idiopathic and related to the IBS and GERD. Have lost 8 lbs. in 2 weeks, since going on a GP diet.

      Treatments

      Aciphex Working / Worked
It's the only proton pump inhibitor I can take without severe side effects. Love it!
      Antacids Not Working
      Caused rebound acid reflux.
Avoid Certain Foods / Chemicals Working / Worked
Avoid alcohol, caffeine, veggies that are associated with bezoars. Use products that are as unprocessed as possible.
      Carafate Somewhat Helpful
Worked for awhile but I started getting severe nausea so stopped.
      Dietary Modification Working / Worked
Limit high fiber grains and veggies but eat as a little grain fiber as tolerated to keep the lower intestinal tract working. Cook all fruits and veggies; no salads. Eat 6-8 times a day. Works for my GP. Alcohol/caffeine restriction helps the GERD.
      Prevacid Not Working
Helped the GERD but caused MAJOR intestinal problems and pain.

      Treatments

      Abuse Counseling Not Working
I got some for my son and it helped nada. He manipulates everyone, including counselors and doctors.
      Al-Anon Somewhat Helpful
At least I got some information about taking care of myself there. I stopped going because I can't stand being around cigarette smoke and everyone there chain smokes.
      Patience Not Working
Hasn't worked. Being patient just gives the addict more rope to hang himself.
      Talking Somewhat Helpful
You've got to share it with somebody who cares, understands, and can support you in your decision-making.
      BuSpar Not Working
He said this wasnt strong enough and stopped taking it.
