Diet Time Mood
Wednesday, August 12, 2009 | A General Update story

Yesterday the doctor had me jump on the scale......  YIKES!!!

During the chemo I was putting about 2 pounds on between the sessions. (3 wks apart)  and the nurses kept saying it was the steroids and not to worry.   Well,  it has been several weeks now since my last chemo and the pounds keep coming on!!!

I am eating really good food (cut a lot of the junk out of my diet when I got sick), having said that I am eating a lot of it.

Obesity runs in my family (300 lbs Grandmother, she was not 5 feet) so I have always had to be careful.

Today I started a "food journal".  I am going to count calories.  It is surprising how fast you can load up the calories.   I think if I am mindful of what I am eating and how much for a few months this is do the trick.

I did not realize that you gain weight with chemo. I lost weight with radiation, but now it has stabalized. I never lost much, but at least a little is good! How is your health from eating those foods? Maybe you need it, even though you are gaining weight temporarily. You have been through enough without feeling guilty or beating yourself up for gaining weight!

I am sure that some of the problem is that I have not been nearly as active as I was before this whole ordeal. While I was on Chemo I was mindful to keep my blood count up so ate lots of high protein and iron rich foods. The steroid in the chemo cocktail also adds weight and gives you a "moon" face look.
I am getting more active.... I even went bike riding this week. It is time to start paying attention to what I am eating.... having said that I had an ice cream cone tonight... :-) very yummy.
Thanks for your concern.... maybe the radiation will help take off a couple pounds... from what I have learned from my support sisters I will have to be careful of what I eat... so I don't have discomfort.
Nice to hear from you Theresa..... how are you?

I am in my 4th week of radiation...yes you do have to be mindful of your diet or else! It took me this long to figure out what I could, could not, did but should not have eaten. Do not eat anything with fiber! I will be going for chemo treatments in Oct...so you had chemo first and then will be going for radiation? How are you feeling?
