My first grandbaby Mood
Friday, July 3, 2009

I am so excited and so tired. My first grandbaby is here, Miss Isabella(Bella) Grace, born this past Monday. She is beautiful, if I do say so myself. We had quite a time of it, my daughter was in labor for 11 hours, and for the last 2, every time she had a contraction, the babies heart rate would go down to about 70. Normal is 120-160.

After consultation with Dr.'s and anesthesiologist, they decided to do a C-section. They rushed her to the OR, and I went too. When they got Bella out she was not breathing, and they started to intubate her. Then she started crying, and they rushed her to the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) She was in there for 2 days while they stabilized her oxygen level. Turns out the umbilical cord was wedged between Bella's head and mom's pelvic bone. Every time she had a contraction, the cord was compressed. And by the time they got her out, she had turned and was breech. While she was in NICU, we went in and fed her, and held her, but my daughter was so upset that Bella had to be there.

Finally Wednesday afternoon she came out of NICU and stayed in the Delivery Suite with us. I never left the hospital, not for 4 days. They both needed me. It was so draining, the suite had a queen size bed so I slept with my daughter, but neither of us got more than 5 hrs of sleep on any nite.

They came home yesterday evening, and all 3 of us are exhausted. My daughter woke me at 4 am to help her with the baby, and she has been napping all day while I watch Bella. She's a good baby, only cries when she is hungry, needs changed, or has her clothing taken off.

So, hardly no protein for 4 days. No exercise, no weight loss. But.....no gain either. That's ok, what a reward we came home with!

Congrats, congrats, congrats, to both you and your daughter!! Sorry you had such a nerve-wracking time, but I thank God that your precious little Bella is fine, and home with you, so you can both just love her to death!
I had a 3rd grandson born a moth early 10 weeks ago, and that gave us some tense moments at the beginning. But all went well, and he' thriving now! New babies are such a miraculous gift to behold, I think!
Don't worry about the protein and weight, you had much more important things to take care of.. Just get back on track when you're able.
Best wishes on becoming a grandma, and all the best to your daughter as she recovers.
    I'll be thinking of you.
    Blessings,
    Becky

Wow what an ordeal, sounds real familiar. I was induced on a Monday and didn't have my little girl until wednesday, her cord was compressed, and wrapped aroud her neck a coulpe times, everytime I pushed it would tighten her heart rate went into the 50's with contraction, finally after a huge episiotomy the doc cut her cord inside me and , it took her forever to cry, or move but after some IV fluids and o2 she was ok. Scariest thing ever though. Congrats on the new addition, I'm glad everything is ok, and that precious baby is at home now. Shelly
