I am writing this from my home in Loyal. I had my first two treatments this week, and got all set up to stay at the Hope Lodge. After my treatment on Friday, I realized I really wanted to come home for the weekend, even though we have the option to stay.
I was a little anxious on Thursday, with moving into my temporary home at the Hope Lodge, trying to think what to bring, and getting the first radiation. I didn't know what to do about supper, and of course didn't think to bring my heating pad or extra blankets, but we managed. As it turned out a church brought supper that night anyway, so I needn't have worried.
The first radiation went smoothly, except for a few back spasms. That's simply from my back problems that I can't lie on my back too long. And the first treatment lasted about 20 minutes. I am told I will not get any major side effects at first, but may start to get symptoms as the treatments go on. Now the treatments will be short, only 10 minutes at a time, so hopefully my back will tolerate them better. From what I hear, the back pain will be the least of my concerns if I get the other side effects later.
The Hope Lodge is a beautiful, compassionate place. The people are wonderful, and it is like a nice motel, except with many extras. It is a wonderful place to be if you must stay somewhere other than home.
But already by Friday I was ready to come back and taste the comfort of home again. As Dorothy in the Wizard of Oz says, "There's no place like home." Even though our house is more humble and less convenient, it is still home, where my animals stay, and where I feel the most comfortable.
We are expecting a snow storm this evening and tomorrow, so we will be going back early tomorrow.

Oh I am so glad to hear from you Theresa... you have been on my mind. Praise Jesus that the "away from home" is comfortable. I know what you mean about "home sweet home"... by the end of the week you are going to be homesick.
Just remember.... this is not forever... and it is taking to your complete cure.
Take care dear friend.
Blessings

Theresa, I also had back issues, lying flat on that hard table! They told my to take a couple of Advils before going for my treatment, which did take the edge of a little...but the first treatment was the worse one having to lie still on your back for so long (I can't even sleep on my back!)
Take care!
