My youngest son has potentially been diagnosed with hyperlexia. He exhibits many of the symptoms, though he has made great progress, with professional help, in his social skills. At 21 months, he still cannot speak any words.

Treatments

Sign Language Working / Worked

His speech therapist has worked with him on sign language as a means to communicate. This has not worked out well. He only has one sign he does on a regular basis, and it was one of his own creation. He will touch his bottom teeth with his finger if he is hungry or thirsty.
