    • About Me

Happily married (18 yrs), Mom of three teens, oldest has severe hypoglycemia and anxiety disorder which led to drug abuse. He just got out of 21 day Rehab. He's been in 2 res. treatment centers, Baker Acted and Marchman Acted. I worry constantly. My 2 daughters are happy, well-adjusted, vibrant, and I try to enjoy them despite all the worry. My husband is amazing, never gives up, makes me believe it will someday be ok.

    • Close Parenting Teenagers (12-18)

I have a great husband, 2 girls, 12& 13, and a son, turning 16 in a week. My son is my only issue. He just got out of 21 day rehab. He has also been in 2 residential treatment facilities, where he was treated for social anxiety disorder, seizure disorder, and drug use. He's hypoglycemic, has to eat protein throughout day. Carbs and sugar make him behave strangely and induce seizures. He hates his family (no therapist can figure out why)wants to drop out, steals from family, neighbors.

      Treatments

      Psychotherapy Somewhat Helpful
son has been through 4 therapists.
    • Close Hypoglycemia (low blood sugar)

I discovered I was hypoglycemic when I read a lot about being exhausted all the time. I changed my diet and felt much better. But staying on the diet is hard. I feel dizzy and tired a lot. I never eat sugar or carbs. I'm hungry every two hours. Thankfully my weight doesn't fluctuate. My son is severely hypoglycemic, we lock up all sugar from him, otherwise he won't stop, sugar consumption induces seizures for him. He has to have protein every few hours.

    • Open Anxiety Disorders in Children

oldest son suffers from severe social anxiety disorder which has led to stealing, strange behavior, drug use. He tries to mask his anxiety, is stubborn about using his relaxation techniques (tapes and meditation). He's been on a lot of different anti-anxiey meds. as well as supplements.

      Treatments

      Xanax Working / Worked
for awhile it worked. No side effects.
      Psychotherapy Working / Worked
since he was 12 it took a lot of work to find a therapist who was shrewd enough to call him out on his lies and give him work to do each week make him think about his actions. She stopped seeing him when he refused to stop drugs. This week shell see him again 1st visit since rehab. In behavioral treatment center he also had an excellent psychologist also not tolerant of his lies.
    • Open Families & Friends Of Addicts

Happily married 18 yrs. 3 teens. Son,15 is in drug rehab. and has anxiety disorder, hypoglycemia, seizure disorder.

      Treatments

      Abuse Counseling Somewhat Helpful
Drug therapy 2 yrs, 2 RTF's. Currently in adolescent drug rehab for 21 days.
      Psychotherapy Somewhat Helpful
Finally found a therapist who will call his bluff, lies to therapist unless parents are present during session.
      Talking Too Soon to Tell
He is non-communicative with family, therapists love him but he lies to them and manipulates
      Writing Somewhat Helpful
This site has helped me. Trying to encourage him to write/blog
    • Open Teen Anxiety

16 yo son w/ severe anxiety that has led to drug abuse

    • Open Kleptomania

My 16 yo son has been compulsively stealing an assortment of things since he was 12.

      Treatments

      Seroquel Not Working
he took this for a couple of weeks. Had side effects and we dicided this drug is too scary to take expecially since he was already on antidepressants and because of his age.
Cognitive Behavioral Therapy Working / Worked
It works when he is honest. Sometimes he tells therapist he is working on techniques to prevent stealing only to find out he had been stealing all along.
