I am so happy to have found recovery, I feel particularly peaceful today.
I am greatful that I have found a Higher Power of my understanding, and I am proud of my heritage too, so here is the Lord's Prayer in the language of my ancestors. It is written in Old English, which was a dialect of Old West Saxon. It was the language spoken at the time of the Battle of Hastings (1066) and in those days an Anglo-Saxon (Englishman) would have been able to have a limited conversation with a German or a Viking (Norwegian or Dane) - the languages were extremely similar, much more so than they are today.
So here it is:
Fæder ure þu þe eart on heofonum
Si þin nama gehalgod
to becume þin rice
gewurþe ðin willa
on eorðan swa swa on heofonum.
urne gedæghwamlican hlaf syle us todæg
and forgyf us ure gyltas
swa swa we forgyfað urum gyltendum
and ne gelæd þu us on costnunge
ac alys us of yfele. Soþlice.´
