Close Hidradenitis Suppurativa

I was diagnosed in 2004 with HS. It started about ten years ago with a boil in my underarm that wouldn't heal, then over the last 5 years spread to both underarms, under my breasts, under my stomach, and on both sides of my groin. I'm always in pain, depressed and angry. I guess I'm not fun to be around, and don't enjoy much anymore. I'm married 23 years, two children, and 2 grandchildren.

Treatments

Keflex Somewhat Helpful

I've was on Keflex twice, both times for months. Dosage was 750mg twice a day. It helped but didn't completely clear it up. If I missed or dose or would stop taking it, HS comes right back.

Amoxicillin Somewhat Helpful

This was the first antibiotic I was on for a long time. Dosage was either 500 or 800mg twice a day. I also was put on Keflex while on Amoxicillin. I had to eat a cup of yogart everyday while on both antibiotics. It helped but didnt completely clear it up. If I missed or dose or would stop taking it HS comes right back.

Doxycycline Somewhat Helpful

This antibiotic was the last one that I was on. Dosage was 100mg twice a day. It worked like the others but the side affects were worse. I was extremely sensitive to sunlight so I had to stay out of direct light and also I had to eat a little before and right after taking it or I would get nauseated for hours if I didnt eat if I wasnt hungry at the timeI would be so nauseated I would vomit. I think this med coupled with the Spironolactone cleared my facial skin a healthier appearance.

Aldactone Somewhat Helpful

This is actually used for heart attack patients it blocks Testosterone hormone from working in your system. Dosage was 50mg twice a day. I took this with the Doxcycline. I had to stay awake for half hour after taking something about choking after taking it. It made me feel calmer but I would cry over anything or just burst out in tears for no reason. Also helped but only as long as your on it.

Hibiclens Somewhat Helpful

This is the only thing Im still using. Its a skin cleaner. Dosage is cleans 1 time daily. Doesnt work well be itself. I was to use it in conjunction with the Doxycycline Spironolactone and an antibacterial gel. No side affects just annoying to use.
