About Me
I am a single mom of a 9 year old boy recently diagnosed with ADHD. Life can be pretty difficult sometimes - I don't have any close family or friends nearby, which can make things pretty difficult, especially when you really need a good support system to help you through the toughest of times. That said, I am also extremely blessed. My family and friends may not be physically close to me, but they are my world. And my little man is my light and my life, my pride and joy. I am learning to take things one day at a time and to learn from mistakes and experiences while learning to cope with my son's ADHD. And I truly believe that God doesn't give us more than we can handle.

Interests
My son and I have an awesome bond, so we love to do just about anything together! Outside of Mommyhood, I enjoy movies, music, crocheting, reading, walking in the great outdoors, hanging out with my friends (which unfortunately I don't do nearly enough), and yes, surfing around on the good ol' world wide web! Really, any 'alone' time works, since those moments are few and far between!

Thanks for the B'day note I do appreciate it greatly. Hang in there!
Thanks
You are so right about these parties being sooo stressful, we have made this the last one. He is getting older now and doesn't need these extragavant parties anymore. The stresss is killing me and like you said it is my brthday as well which no one will know and he will not care. Last night we bought him a nice bike for his b'day and he said is that all I am getting? greedy little punk! lol! AGAIN THANKS FOR THE COMMENTS AND i SEE WHY YOU STOPPED THE PARTIES.
Thanks
Thank you for yur response to my journal. My son has now lost his mathbook and can't do any work. He also was late to science and it was reported as an absence because he was buying a comic book at the book fair aahhhh...... I hate middle school!
High Five
My son goes back to school tomorrow after his 2 days suspension.. how much do you think he learned? I'd say 0. I've never understood suspensions anyway.. what kid wouldn't WANT to be out of school on a suspension! ;-)

Yes, it does help to know that others can relate, I would lose my mind without these groups - I used to feel so alone before the internet ;) I really hope that your child has a better teacher this year, worst case, ask for a meeting with the teacher and principal, that will usually get things back on track..lol Have a great day and take care :) Jenn

Support Groups
Close ADHD / ADD
I am a single mom of a 9 year old boy with ADHD. He is currently on Biphentin 15mg. I'm looking to find other parents of ADHD children who are going through the same things, and build a support system - something I am really missing.
Treatments
- Behavior Management Somewhat Helpful
- On some level it is working (rewards for good behaviour), but it is difficult to get the teachers to keep it up on a daily basis. Ultimately, it has been a combination of this and medication that has worked best.
- Research Somewhat Helpful
- With the help of my son's therapist and his teachers, I have an IEP in place for him to help him where he needs it the most. Some strategies we are using are a rewards system, verbal praise, repetition, and duplicate notes. While they are working on some level, these strategies on their own are not enough, and my son is still struggling.
Close Parents of Children with ADHD
I am a single mom of a 9 year old boy with ADHD. The past year has been a difficult one, with doctors and trying strategy after strategy, leaving medications as a last resort. I have recently decided to try the meds with my son, and he is currently on Biphentin XR, 15mg. I'm looking to find other parents of ADHD children who are going through the same things, and build a support system - something I am really missing.
Treatments
- Behavior Management Somewhat Helpful
- I have tried reward systems to be used in the classroom, but have had a lot of difficulty getting the teachers to do them every day. I do communicate daily with his teacher though, so I can reward him at home for a good day. Ultimately it has been this and medication working together that have been most effective.
