Plugging Away
Managed to walk about half-mile with Coda (my dog) today. Need to run errands. Will I? Don't know yet. Drew myself bath water 2 …
former RN, full-time mom for 22 years, 6 kids ages 22 to 8, married 27 years. I've had CFS for 10 and 1/2 years. Before that I was very active. I ran 3 to 4 times a week, worked out with weights and exercise class at a health club 2 to 3 times/week. Now I feel really accomplished if I get in 2 or 3 days of a half-mile walk in a week. Used to be very involved in my church. Sang in our worship band, sang at other functions too. Taught Kids Sunday School. Went to lunch w/ friends a couple times a month. I'm lucky to have lunch with a friend once in a blue moon now.

My husband. Hard working go-getter family doc who trains Residents in Family Medicine after 15 years in small town private practice. We try to have a date night every week, and spend some time alone every evening. But he's gone a lot in recent years so that's not easy. My kids. 2 in college, 2 in HS and one in 3rd grade keep me busy. Plus 21-year-old still living at home, trying to get his act together. :) Books, especially mystery/intrigue, spiritual, Christianity/religion, raising kids. I'd love gardening, but don't have much time for it. Some day maybe. Also like to crochet, knit. They're sort of my last resort for an activity or alternative to lying around and crying. :) I'm still a beginner. Have been working on the same blanket for about 9 months now. Ha! I love Colorado and hiking/mountain climbing when I'm up to it.

10 & 1/2 yrs ago I was a busy 38-yr-old mom w/5 kids, a busy family doc husband. Had been jogging regularly for15 yrs., except during pregnancies, wt. lifting, etc. Busy in church, friendships. In Aug of 1998 came down w/what seemed like flu after a move. After 3 ms of bed rest & various med. tests my doc decided I had CFS. Didn't know what else to call it, but believed I was truly sick. Never said "It's in your head."
I've struggled with depression at least since age 9 or 10. Although I remember back as far as age 5 wondering if I was worth anything. Got severe enough in 12th grd I ended up in the hospital. Started having anxiety/panic attacks at age 18. Did pretty well without medication, with help of a wonderful counselor until my psyche took a dive after my 3rd child's birth. Been on various medications ever since. It's been especially difficult since I was diagnosed with CFS 10 yrs ago.
