THANK YOU! Mood
Tuesday, July 21, 2009 | An Inspiring story

Mother has done really well this second round of chemo! She has not suffered nausea nor has she been exhausted as the first round. We have hit a bump with a low platelet count this time and have had to halt chemo for two weeks. which has been disappointing. But one thing this disease teaches you and that we have learned from all of your is to roll with the punches. I have found so much strength and support on this site that have helped both Mother and I get through these disappointments. Just wanted to say thank you to each and everyone of you. You have not only been great encouragers, but you have also been a wonderful source of information.

I do not recall which one of you referred us to "chemo angels" but it is truly an amazing organization. Mother has been adopted by two angels, and they write to her weekly, sometimes more, and send gifts. It is such an amazing organization that my niece has signed up to become a "chemo angel" and I plan to do the same after Mother's chemo is completed, and I'm not so busy. These cheery letters and cards mean so much to Mother. Her friends have been amazing, but after 8 months of being away, their phone calls, cards, and letters have come less frequently, so it's nice for Mother to have the chemo angels. I will be forever grateful to the person who referred us to them, and perhaps some of you would really benefit from having a "chemo angel."

Just wanted to express our gratitude for this wonderful group. We pray for all of you! We hope to hear today that Mother's platelets have regenerated and that she can continue her chemo after missing two weeks.

Love and Blessings!

    Dear Susan
I`m so happy to hear that Mimi is doing well..even a few weeks off from chemo will help her strengthen and regroup so her counts will be within a normal range. Has she had her CA125 checked, if so, do you know her levels? Avastin continues to be my miracle drug and has reduced my CA125 levels from 984 -20 in 6 months. When will you be with Mimi again? Please send her my best. Lots of love!

    Dear Linda

What a success story you are! I love reading about your success. I read all the posts to Mother, and you are such an encouragement to her.

When Mother was diagnosed her CA 125 was 579. Following the first 9 chemo treatments and surgery, it dropped to 88, and after four chemo treatments this round it is down to 40. We're hoping that the next time they check it that it will drop into the normal range! We're definitely getting there.

I leave on August 8th and if there are no more delays I will take her home in September and get her settled there. We plan to practice driving around town, get her settled back into her home, etc. It will be hard in some ways because she had less than two months to get used to not having Daddy before she had to move to Atlanta for her cancer treatment. I know it will be an adjustment for her.

I hope you are having a wonderful summer.

Thanks Halli! So are you. The mortality rate for ovarian cancer in older women is really low, but Mother has been amazing! I'm so proud of her. I hope you are doing well!
