Close Bone Cancer
Type: OtherI was diagnosed with Fibrosarcoma of my proximal left femur in January of 1982. I underwent radiation at the rate of 450 Rads daily for six weeks; two types of chemotherapy and two surgeries ending in a 7 1/2 hr. limb salvage surgery where they replaced my left hip and femur. I am still alive today, 27 years post bone cancer, so I maybe able to help some people who are there or think they maybe going there. I have been there and know what its all about. Ask me I won't lie!
Treatments
- Chemotherapy Somewhat Helpful
- I had what is called Methroxate and Adramycin and I won't attempt to claim I have spelled them correctly. They were only nominally effective in treating my cancer at the time.
- Surgery Not Working
- Two major surgeries ending with the limb salvage 7 1/2 hr., surgery where they replaced my let hip and left femur. This basically removed the black, egg-shaped tumor I had in my left hip. I had all my work done at the Oregon Health Sciences University in Portland, OR.
