H1N1 Mood
Friday, October 30, 2009 | A Rambling story

Ok so I went and got my killed vaccine of H1N1 yesterday. It was kind of a let down. I'm not sure what I was expecting, maybe my arm falling off or something but I survived it just fine. It didn't even hurt. I feel fine today too. All the Hype has me waiting for the other shoe to drop. Crazy Huh? Oh well now I'm almost fully vaccinated against the bugs threatening me. I have my second shot in a series of 3 for my Hepatitis B. After this one then I get 1 more in 6 months and i should be protected against that bug too. We have been getting lots of cases of the H1N1 in our ICU unit and it worries me when I think of my Grandchildren and my children. They are in that age range that are the most vurlnable plus my Daughter, Son in law and both Grandsons are prone to asthma so makes them at twice the risk. They are just waiting for the H1N1 shots to become available to them. They can't take the inhaled vaccine because of the asthma problems. I got my H1N1 shot because I work in a hospital and come in contact with many people who have or are carrying the H1N1 and regular flu, so our hospital provides us with the vaccine.

Hope you all stay well and stay safe.

its OK to get the shots by the way cause your arm doesn't fall off.

Hugs Ferr

Oh well that's good to know! I had the regular flu shot recently and though my arm didn't fall off it felt as if I'd been playing wii tennis all through the night.

Sickies Mood
Thursday, October 29, 2009 | A Rambling story
OK I just got over being stuck at home for a week with some sort of viral broncitis or viral pnemonia. Yea My lungs not only hurt but burned. When I went into minor care they just looked at me and said go home and stay away from people for a few days, boy that made me feel as if the doctors cared. After 4 days I went back to the ER and the doctor to plactate me put me on antibiotics since I had such a bad sore throat I couldn't swallow or breath. It honestly felt like someone was choking me and when I swallowed it felt like razorblades. They weren't even concerned when I was coughing up blood. Hello, I'm on Coumadin!!! Guess they didn't care. The ER doc put me on the antibiotic Z-Pac. Ha have you read the info sheet that comes with Z-Pac. "Warning do not take if you are on anti-coagulants" When i called him on it he told me it doesn't affect the coumadin that much. I was at a point in my illness that i was willing to try anything so I took the Z-pac. Big mistake, my INR is now sitting at 1.5. My PCP finally got back to town and I called him. He said stop the antibiotics and gave me some lidocaine to gargle with. Ha real good, It not only numed my throat but my mouth and everything else. I couldn't talk for 3 hours and my throat still hurt like it was being slit, and I still couldn't breath. I guess that was the doctors way of keeping me from complaining. I finally found a cough medacine that worked a bit (Alka Seltzer Severe cold) and took tylenol, What the Hell it wasn't going to kill me any qucker than the doctors were doing. I am finally well enough to go back to work tomorrow, so long as I don't have a relapse. Hopefully my INR comes up soon, as I really don't want to have another episode of PE's.

I've had a lot of PE's like you but I encourage you to get a second opinion on filters. Your doc told you the blood clots go around them sometimes. So did
mine but I have them. I needed 2 because my vena cava is too large. Mine are
in my iliac veins. I believe it has made a big difference.

I know I don't have the flu and its just the typical reaction to the shot which occurs about 24-48 hours after getting it, I'm sure glad iIhave a couple days off so i can start feeling better. What a lousey way to spend your days off.
