Good for you! There is always a first step to everything! You are working on your weight, starting slow, but will pick up as you gain strength. If possible, get a personal trainer, to try to help you. For at least the first two weeks. Then you can get a routine down that is truely benificial. Also try to get a friend to join with you, and go at hours that are less busy. I understand how you could be intimidated , I am two, especially when the muscle guys are there. I have 3 grandsons in the military now. What they did was go to the recuriting centers and worked out with them. One was going into the Airforce but he worked out with the Marines! Good luck on your dreams.
