Hi Swandy52, I was just looking back at a message you sent to someone experiencing bullying in the workplace and wanted to touch base with you. As you correctly observed, the person will have an impossible time of proving discrimination if she has not previously requested and been granted reasonable accommodation for a disability or can demonstrate that her treatment is the result of her being in a category of employee accorded "heightened scrutiny," e.g., a racial or religious minority receiving slurs specifically for that reason. I discovered this the hard way! I know there are anti-bullying laws in the United Kingdom -- my workplace is so rife with bullies that I began to look into this issue as long as eight years ago. But in the U.S. we all just buck up or clear out. I have an attorney dealing with my employer in terms of watching for my best interests as my unpaid medical leave continues. (There's a hiring freeze anyhow, so they lose nothing by looking noble and holding my job for me.) Meantime, I still have the racing heart and beads of sweat when I even see their logo. I would never have imagined such deceit and mean-spiritedness ... even my psychiatrist says that in 30 years of practice, he's only seen "bureaucrazy" raised to this level of art on two other occasions. Hope all's well with you. FanWoman

Wow! That's great news!! Isn't it funny how we can be suffering and then read a book and all of a sudden something has changed. I'm so glad to hear you're doing better. What was it about the book that turned things around for you???

Sending to all my sister survivors: one of my all time favorite songs,

      Shaking the Tree-Peter Gabriel

      We are shaking the tree...

Waiting your time, dreaming of a better life
Waiting your time, so much more than just a wife
You dont have to do what your mother has done, she has done
This is your life, this new life has begun
Its your day - a womans day
Its your day - a womans day

Turning the tide, you are on the incoming wave
Turning the tide, you know you are nobodys slave
      Find your brothers and sisters
Who can hear all the truth in what you say
They can support you when youre on your way
Its your day - a womans day
Its your day - a womans day

      We are shaking the tree...

Theres nothing to gain when theres nothing to be lost
Theres nothing to gain if you stay behind and count the cost
Make a decision that you can be who you can be, you can be
Tasting the fruit, come to the liberly(? ) tree
Its your day - a womans day
Its your day - a womans day

Changing your ways, changing those surrounding you
Changing your ways, more than any man can do
Open your heart, show him the anger and pain, so you heal
Maybe hes looking for his womanly side, make him feel

You had to be so strong
And you do nothing wrong, nothing wrong at all
Were gonna to break it down
We have to shake it down, shake it all around

      We are shaking the tree...

When you walk through a storm hold your head up high
And don't be afraid of the dark.
At the end of a storm is a golden sky
And the sweet silver song of a lark.
      Walk on through the wind,
      Walk on through the rain,
Tho' your dreams be tossed and blown.
Walk on, walk on with hope in your heart
      And you'll never walk alone,
      You'll never, ever walk alone.

Walk on, walk on with hope in your heart
      And you'll never walk alone,
      You'll never, ever walk alone.
