      Hi Katster,
I am glad I was able to help in some way.
My worst symptom is the "Levator Ani Syndrome
The muscles inside my rectum spasms all day long causing
tremendous discomfort. It feels like I have to go,
but I really don't.It also gets rather painful at times.
Thank God it quiets down when I sleep. The levator muscle
found in the rectum is the biggest muscle of the
pelvin floor. When it is inflamed it also triggers my
bladder to act up.Not everyone gets this with IC and
I sincerely hope you don't.I am on Neurontin for this,
but I can't say that it is helping.I really believe
IC/PFD is a central nervous disorder and how you treat
that I don't know.WE could be in a catonic state brought
on by drugs. We would be pain free, but wouldn't know where we were or even who we were.I have to admit that
      doesn't sound too bad somedays!

I hope you do find some relief in your treatments.
Please let me know about your struggles.
      Take Care,
      Lynn

      Hi katster,
Thank you for inviting me to be your friend.
Are you able to manage your IC most of the time?
I am afraid mine is 24/7 mainly because I have the
levator ani syndrome.Hope you don't get that.
      Take care!

Thank you very much.. I love being married :o). Yes I have had nerve blocks. They actually helped too. I had to stop them because I have freaky veins that made having them done dangerous, but they're actually very simple to have done. They usually give you a very light sedative so you don't feel the needles going in. No pain at all when the insert them.. just a faint pressure. Sometimes they might nick a vein, and it feels like a pin prick. They worked great though. They get rid of all the surrounding pelvic pain too.. and the pain that you can get in your lady organs and parts. I really hope they work for you!

Wow sorry u went through that, I was bit by a spider this weekend and ended at the ER myself for the day. I got very sick and having lupus and IC doesn't help. I personally just think we all have very fragile symptoms and diet is based on individually. I eat loads of fruits and veggies and have no side affects at all. I do stay clear of brocoli which is hard to digest and grapefruit/oranges , I tend to eat more raw tender greens and loads of fruit and I am symptom free most of the time of both ic and lupus..........although I think it is a combination of things that helps.
Hugs to you and if you need someone to talk to feel free to give me a call, or chat privately at the IC Friends blog. Your in my prays

Hi hun :o).. my health is still really bad, and I actually think I'm becoming sicker. But everything else in my life is amazing. I got married to the most understanding man on the planet. He's really amazing about my health problems and trying to help me be better. And I just moved to Colorado last week, and we have set up a beautiful home. It's great because I can work from home now. I'm really happy. How are you doing?

    • Close Interstitial Cystitis (IC)

      Treatments

      Baking Soda Working / Worked
I'm still learning what foods I can eat, and when I eat something that hurts me, I drink a small amount of baking soda with water and it calms it down. I can't do this often however, because I have to watch my sodium intake. (it will make you retain water/swell)
      Bladder Instillation Working / Worked
The bladder instillations I get are actually Uracyst instillations and they keep me going, seriously. They decrease my pain significantly, and also reduce my symptoms.
      Elavil Working / Worked
This is the only thing that has SIGNIFICANTLY reduced my pain. It works for me even better than any narcotic. I recommend trying it.
      Elmiron Somewhat Helpful
Elmiron has helped my urgency and frequency considerably, but has not helped my pain at all, which is my biggest problem with IC. I experienced a lot of side effects for the first month, such as constantly feeling like I had the flu, and I have lost tons of hair, and now I'm still losing hair but the other side effects have gone away.
      Pyridium Not Working
I took this for a bladder infection, not for IC, but I'm allergic to it and my throat closed up after projectile vomiting. Not a good experience, but I understand that it is extremely uncommon to be allergic to it.
      Physical Therapy Working / Worked
Physical therapy helps the pain a lot. I wish I could go to it every single week but I cant afford it.
      Zyrtec Working / Worked
This has reduced my pain. I will never stop taking it. I love it.
    • Close Endometriosis

      Treatments

      Extended-Cycle Birth Control Not Working
Did absolutely nothing for the symptoms or the pain.
      Laser Surgery Somewhat Helpful
Took away a lot of the pain from endometriosis, but I'm still in constant pain... I'm not sure if any of the pain I'm currently in is from endometriosis or not. I stopped ending up in the hospital from passing out and throwing up though.. that's amazing.
      Lupron Working / Worked
I have been on Lupron for almost a year now. The first six months I did just straight Lupron but since then I've had to do some add back hormone therapy so my bones don't get too brittle. This has worked wonders for my endometriosis and I'm going to stay on it as long as I can -- it's completely worth the side effects.
    • Open Eating Disorders
      Type: Bulimia

My eating disorder started with anorexia for only 7 months and then moved onto bulimia for over 6 years. I am what you would term 'recovered' though still always wary, and I am here to give any of you any help I can.

      Treatments

      Dietitian Consult Working / Worked
This was also a scary, uncomfortable part of my recovery, but in the end it was helpful to know how to balance a diet so that you can maintain a healthy weight without getting overweight or underweight. It takes TIME though, so don't jump into this too soon.
      Group Therapy Working / Worked
This was the start of my recovery. It was impossible for me to not resent everyone in my life trying to help me that wasn't suffering from the same thing and it was amazing to be in a room of people that understood and were dealing with the same hell. It is also where I met my psychotherapist, who saved my life.
      Outpatient Treatment Program Somewhat Helpful
I tried many of these... they were somewhat helpful.
      Psychotherapy Working / Worked
My psychotherapist saved my life. Finding the reasons for the start of your eating disorder and the triggers for them (because even if you are "better" you still always have it and have to maintain it and keep controlling it like an alcoholic is always an alcoholic and can never have a drink again) were so important to me being alive today. You have to find the right psychotherapist, but when you do, it's honestly worth the money. You're worth it. Believe that.
Residential Treatment Center Working / Worked
Homewood in Guelph, ON - Canada. It's a great program, however, I didn't stay the entire time because many of the girls were in stages I had already been through and they were bringing me back to them and making me sicker. I gained so much knowledge and understanding at Homewood though and would recommend the program to anyone, regardless of their eating disorder classification.
Support from Friends & Family Working / Worked
The support was hard to accept from anyone that hadn't dealt with eating problems themselves, but in the end, when I started to improve, it was needed.
