A Tribute To My Mother Mood
Tuesday, May 5, 2009 | An Inspiring story
I wrote and read this eulogy and tribute at my mother’s memorial service. Each of her five children either read something they wrote or sang a special song. It was a small but very beautiful and moving service to honor our very special Mother. She was ninety five Years old. Mama Swede past away in August of 2006. Here is my tribute to my mother. My Mother The Quilt       When I think of my mother I think of many things like beauty, wit, joy, patients, kindness, warmth, comfort, fun, amazing, security and a strong foundation.      Yes my mother the quilt. You may be smiling at this comparison. But let me explain, since I know a lot about quilts. Each quilt top has many beautiful pieces making up the beautiful patchwork. In my mind I see some of the patches being the lessons my mother taught me and some patches are the people and experiences she brought into my life. There are many fun cute patches that remind me of her fun cute ways. There are a few dark patches that remind me of some sad times. I love the bright yellow patches that bring back the memory of all the sunshine she brought in to my life. All of these patches make of the beautiful patchwork I call Mama Swede.       All of these patches are held together with stitches of my mother’s love patients, kindness, Joy, wit, and her fantastic humor. My mother was a fun, sweet person and kept us in stitches right to the very end.      The back of the quilt is the foundation. My mother gave all of her children a strong foundation to start and carry out our lives. She introduced us to God and his purpose for our life. She told us of God’s son Jesus and his great sacrifice he made on or behalf.      The Batting of the quilt is what gives the quilt warmth. My mother like the batting gave our family warmth in the comfort of her loving arms with her love and understanding of our needs. Many where the times she held us and comforted us when we were scared or sick or hurt. She would hold us and rock us to and sing us to sleep.       The thousands of stitches hold the quilt together. My mother held our family together with love and patients and devotion to motherhood and a strong Christian faith.         The binding surrounds the quilt and covers all the ruff edges. My mother did the same by being just who she was and giving us the feeling of security in our home and giving us a safe place to grow up with boundaries.        Like a quilt that last a long time and becomes a treasured heirloom, my mother lived 95 years and is our family most treasured heirloom. The most beautiful patch work quilt in our lives. And the most beautiful quilt I will ever see. She was amazing.                        There will never be another like my Mama Swede I love you Mama Swede, Rest in Peace.   Ann
