47, bipolar since early 20s. Misdiagnosed as major depressive disorder. Antidepressants made me crazy. Self-diagnosed bipolar after research on internet. Going through different medications now hoping for one or a combination that will allow me to really live my life now. Struggling daily with depression and mania. What is normal?

Close Bipolar Disorder
47, bipolar since early 20s. Misdiagnosed as major depressive disorder. Antidepressants made me crazy. Self-diagnosed bipolar after research on internet. Going through different medications now hoping for one or a combination that will allow me to really live my life now. Struggling daily with depression and mania. What is normal?
Treatments
- Depakote Not Working
- This medication did nothing for me. The dosage the doctor prescribed made me feel very edgy. I am no longer taking this medication.
- Geodon Not Working
- This made me a zombie at a low dosage. I wanted to sleep all the time. I am no longer taking it.
- Lamictal Not Working
- I believe I took this briefly, but do not remember side effects. I don't think it did anything for me as I am no longer on it.
- Lithium Somewhat Helpful
- It was helpful, but I could not get the dosage right. I would either become toxic or would not take enough to help. Worked great to stabilize my moods but not so good as a long term medication. I am no longer on this medication.
- Seroquel Not Working
- Made me too sleepy at lower doses. I am no longer taking this medication.
- Wellbutrin Somewhat Helpful
- I was up to 450mg and it wasn't helping. The doctor prescribed Prozac along with it, and it made me rapid cycle. At the time, I didn't know what it was called, but I was having severe mood swings every five minutes. I am no longer taking either of these.
Close Diabetes Type 2
Diabetes for several years. On and off meds. Was controlling it with Diet and Exercise for a while, but now BG is in the 300s after a meal and I am just starting back on Lantus and Actos. Hoping I don't have to go on short acting insulin as well, but the numbers are not looking good.
Treatments
- Actos Working / Worked
- Worked in the past. Hoping it will work again.
- Eating Healthier Foods Working / Worked
- Kept me off insulin and medications for 2 years. Then I lost my walking 3 mile a night job and my diabetes has flared its ugly head.
- Lantus Working / Worked
- Worked in the past. Hoping it will work again.
- Physical Exercise Working / Worked
- Kept me off insulin and medications for 2 years. Then I lost my walking 3 mile a night job and my diabetes has flared its ugly head.
- Metformin Working / Worked
- Did not work for me. 2000mg day gave me diarrhea. Had to go on Lantus from there.
Open Financial Challenges
Lost my job in September. Husband is on disability. I finally have medical insurance through the state. Go figure I have to be unemployed to have medical insurance?
