I found this site last year and it's been of great assistance, on many occasions, with my alcohol & marijuana addictions. I am alcohol free, finally.... "Free at least...Free at last" And some day...I will be smoke free as well and be a bloody tea totaler. lol

Step 4 huh? Nah..it aint that bad once you scream and cry and snot everywhere..hee hee.. :) Didn't love NCIS Los Angeles, but not givin up yet dammit! Think I'm gonna go try that new show "Mercy" but don't have high hopes. Law & ORder SVU premier is tonight, I'm in love with Detective Elliot Stabler and want to have his children. :)

I had been an increasingly heavy drinker for 5 years, until I got a DUI 1/04/08 and was court ordered to go to AA 1 X per week. I now have been sober since 2/26/08 and am very grateful to AA and that Judge!
Treatments
- AA Meetings Working / Worked
- At my 1st mandatory meeting I said, "My name is Kristi and I'm court ordered to be here!". I had all intentions to keep drinking, as I was not ordered to stop.. Well, after my pompous self introduction, they laughed and welcomed me. For some reason, I came back the next day, after not drinking for 2 days and got my 24 hr chip. The serenity, honesty and faith of the people in those rooms kept me coming back well after my sentence was up.
- Willpower Somewhat Helpful
- I had been telling myself for years that I needed to stop, usually after some embarrassing or painful consequence of way too much tequila. Then, after the humiliating experience of the DUI and realizing it could and should have been much worse, I decided enough was enough. Most credit goes to my home AA group, "The Recovery Group" in Nor. Cal. I still get cravings, but when I do, I just think of that lucky fool who never knew when to quit and I know I don't want to be that person anymore.
Close Marijuana Addiction & Recovery
I first tried MJ when I was 12 years old and had smoked it regularly for 26 years. I had been off for 2 months with just this support group, then had a slip or two...this last one has lasted some time now.
Treatments
- Cold Turkey Somewhat Helpful
- Cold turkey only worked for me when it wasn't available to me.
- Support Groups Working / Worked
- I don't have an MA meeting in my town but I do have AA meetings that I attend and they help. Also Daily Strength is aptly named as I can gain a bit of daily strength by come on here every day.
- Wellbutrin Working / Worked
- I started this in 6/09 to help me quit smoking cigarettes. The Dr. also mentioned that it MAY help me quit smoking marijuana too. Well I still smoke cigarettes but haven't smoked NEAR as much weed since I started. I had some ANGRY dreams at first and kept waking up throughout the night but they stopped after a week.

I first starting smoking when I was just a kid, like 12, because I thought it was cool. 26 years later, I've kicked booze and weed...but am still slave to fags.
Treatments
- Cold Turkey Not Working

- Hypnotherapy Not Working
- Tried that once, paid $150 (or more). Lasted maybe a few weeks, but once I read "money back guarantee before 30 days" I wrote in for my money back.
- Nicotine Gum Not Working
- Didn't work as I have TMJ and can't chew gum for long.
- Nicotine Patch Not Working
- Made me ill
- Wellbutrin Somewhat Helpful
- It helped for a while...but my body doesn't respond well to drugs on a long term basis, so the effect wore off quickly.
- Willpower Somewhat Helpful
- I once quit for 3 months on will power (and a bet with my ex..who quit at the same time). He went a bit over a month, and I carried on. Then at a 4th July party, we were drinking, he went on the porch for a smoke, I joined him to be with him, reached for his smoke, he handed it to me, with a sly smile, and BANG...been hooked again ever since.
