Just the imuran...it seems as if each flare gets worse.

You are quite right, you do not need a bucketful of organic vitamins and minerals. You need to determine the basic needs of the body first and then act upon them. Happy Christmas. Hugs, Don.
I’m With You
Oh yeah, I did the wheat/gluten/dairy free diet last year around this time. I know that it is especially difficult around now--with all the cookies and eggnog floating around.
Present
Thanks for your reply suggesting a gluten free diet in my needing to vent post. I need to try to eliminate those foods. How long before you notice a difference? I haven't been on Asacol but I've been on Pentasa which is the same thing, but not the other drug you mentioned that starts with a "c".

Close Food Allergies
Type of allergy: Other FoodsUnspecific inflammatory autoimmune with closest diagnosis being Crohn's Colitis. Have gluten intolerance since 2000. Still am a major foodie and always looking for new recipes and dietary tips.
Treatments
- Avoid Certain Foods / Chemicals Working / Worked
- Had no idea what was going on and my mom saw some tv show about gluten intolerance and suggested I try it. I had tried everything else at that point. Slowly I started feeling better and since then have removed it from my diet. Now and again I fall off the wheat wagon and pay for it every time. BTW I tested negative for celiac and wheat allergy, but my doctors said that if it flares up my inflammatory condition then avoid it. My biggest inflammatory catalyst is eating a combo gluten and coffee.
- Humira Working / Worked
- Humirafreedom. Staying away from my triggers and using Humira have let me feel normal and completely be free of mucosal ulcerations and rashes for the most part. If I flare it is very mild. I love my rhumatologist!
Close Celiac Disease
First flare 2000. The only improvement was when wheat was removed from my diet. I have been gluten /wheat free ever since. Finally got a diagnosis of Crohn's Colitis 2004, but tested negative for celiac disease. I still follow a GF/WF lifestyle and would love to find people to share recipes and stories with.
Treatments
- Avoid Certain Foods / Chemicals Working / Worked
- I avoid all sugar substitutes. These aggravate my intestines. Avoidance is the only thing that works.
- Gluten Free Diet Working / Worked
- I realized that gluten free doesn't necessarily mean wheat free and I have to avoid both. This includes the yummy Ezekiel bread. The roughness irritates my intestines. I still miss biscuits :(
- Humira Working / Worked
- A combination of staying wheat free Asacol Colchicine and Humira has let me finally gain control of my spiraling life. Humira helps any flare usually wheat related stay small and infrequent. My white counts are finally in normal range.
Open Crohn's Disease & Ulcerative Colitis
First flare 2000, of all the medicine they gave me the only thing that worked to reduce the symptoms was to remove wheat/gluten from my diet. Went undiagnosed and even scoffed at for four years! Finally, 2004 an intelligent gastro diagnosed me with Crohn's/Colitis but I had to move. I luckily found a great Rheumatologist who has helped me finally feel normal. I am scared to enjoy it.
Treatments
- Asacol Working / Worked
- Was put on this in 2004 and have been on it ever since. I don't know if it helps or not, waiting to get stable enough to see if removing it makes a difference.
- Avoid Certain Foods / Chemicals Working / Worked
- Removing wheat and wheat gluten from my diet is the only thing that stops me being constantly flared. I tested negative for celiac but wheat acts like a flare catalyst for me. I also can't tolerate sugar substitutes. My "deadly" combo is to have coffee and wheat products together within the same week.
- Azathioprine Somewhat Helpful
- This was the first immune inhibitor I was put on and it was scary. My hair started falling out and I felt weird at first, but I got used to it. It just didn't work to suppress all my symptoms or adjust my blood work enough so we had to try something else.
- Prednisone Working / Worked
- This was definitely a life saver for me. At my worst this was the only drug that helped bring down the pain. It is also a double edge sword and I am glad to be off of it and really never want to have to go back to it again. When I was coming off pred I had one of the biggest nastiest flares since the beginning. I also gained weight, had to get up several times a night to pee, could not sleep, had hot flashes, but my skin acne was gone! lol
- Probiotics Working / Worked
- I use culturelle. I am not sure if it helps, but I don't like yogurt. The regular yogurt has too much sugar and I can't tolerate the sugar substitutes. I like Kefir yogurts and pick that up when I can find it.
- Humira Working / Worked
- I started Humira about 10 months ago. Do I dare to be happy and feel normal? This is scary. The cloud has lifted and I am disoriented. I am finally finishing school which I had to drop out of due to a huge flare. I am enjoying feeling healthy which makes me scared to move. I think I will get through school first before I test the waters. Exercise can wait.
- Colchicine Working / Worked
- While on Azathioprine my awesome Rheumatologist suggested Colchicine because my mucosal ulcerations were not going away. This worked wonders and since I have been on it have had constant dependable results. I am off the Azathioprine and on Humira but still taking Colchicine. This drug I have to say has given me the most improvement of my quality of life.
Open Dry Eyes
Always have had dry eyes. During high school I didn't wear alot of eye makeup because of it. I got PRK corrective surgery and this made my dry eyes 100x worse. I would wake up in the middle of the night and jump out of bed like someone stabbed me in the eye, screaming and cursing. My eye had "stuck" to my lid. I was told that I might have Sojourns.
Treatments
- Restasis Working / Worked
- I didn't use it long enough because I was on several other medications and was afraid of mixing so many that might cause side effects. How would I know what medication I was having side effects to.
- Prednisone Working / Worked
- When I was on prednisone for other inflammatory issues it helped with my dry eyes but I had to come off of the dredded pred.
Open Hypochondria
Diagnosed with Crohn's/colitis with bouts of ER. This took years to diagnose. The worst was when a Dr. told me pretty much to get a life. Feeling better but paranoid all the time about doing something that will make me sick or flare. Feeling like a germaphobe and hypochondriac need input and probably therapy :D
Treatments
- Humira Working / Worked
- This makes my anxiety worse because of the warnings that infections could cause death. Every time someone sneezes I look at them sideways and refuse to go to my sisters and visit with the kids when I hear someone is sick. I am absolutely happy with the results I am having but I am afraid to start exercising because of the possibility that it may cause a flare as it had in the past. Need help to move forward.
