    • About Me

I am a recently married, software engineer who is looking for methods to cope with my major depression and pain. I've gone through a lot of changes in the past couple of months... giving up a dream, starting a new job, finishing a masters thesis, buying my first home, getting married. I'm easily hurt at times, and am completely fragile lately. Crying a lot, but bad at expressing it.

      From Rainer July 17

It is easy to be pleasant when life flows by like a song, but the man worth while is the one who will smile when everything goes dead wrong. For the test of the heart is trouble, and it always comes with years, and the smile that is worth the praises of earth is the smile that shines through the tears. ~ Irish Proverb

    • Close Depression
      Type: Clinical (Major) Depression

I was diagnosed with Depression when I was 25 - I am 33 right now. I have tried several different medications, and have suffered terribly from all the side-effects, and even found that some medications made me worse. Often, I was still terribly depressed while on medication. So, I am really interested in trying something new, I want to try to regulate my depression using exercise, diet, and support. I don't think think this will cure me, but I do believe that it could help.

      Treatments

      Celexa Not Working
Made me anxious, was only on it for a week.
      Effexor Working / Worked
Worked fairly well, I didn't gain weight. Only worked for a few years before pooping out
      Lexapro Not Working
Made me anxious and more depressed, which is a strange combination.
      Meditation Considering
Have tried, but is difficult to dedicate time to "doing nothing."
      Paxil Not Working
Gained ten pounds in less than a week.
      Positive Thinking Working / Worked
Works when I can do it... but, sometimes the depression is too powerful.
      Prozac Working / Worked
Worked well with some weight gain. Pooped out in a couple of yeas.
      Psychotherapy Somewhat Helpful
Uncertain. Can't seem to figure out if it really is worth the money...
      Wellbutrin Not Working
Great for obsessive thinking and to keep from over-eating, but no good for depression (for me)
      Writing Working / Worked
Works very well to keep all the psychotic thoughts out of my mouth and away from the ears of those who would judge and might not understand. Very comforting.
      Zoloft Working / Worked
Worked well, some weight gain, pooped out in a couple of years.
      Physical Exercise Somewhat Helpful
My doctor has asked me to do this every day so thats enough to motivate me to do so. I dont know how much it really helps but its never made me worse. Sometimes I do feel a lot better afterwards especially if Im really really down and can barely move. But it is very difficult.
    • Close Diets & Weight Maintenance

      I am a sugar addict and a binge-eater.

      Treatments

      Counting Calories Working / Worked
Worked pretty well, but was a pain. I also have a difficult time being honest about what I eat since I'm such a binger, leading to guilt, leading to binge... see the cycle?
      Eating Healthier Foods Not Working
Only because I still eat a lot of junk in addition to the healthy foods.
      Physical Exercise Not Working
Because I eat too many sweets and cookies.
    • Open Fitness Goals

      Treatments

      Elliptical Trainer Working / Worked
This is one of my favorite machines, probably because it is so close to walking.
      Hiking Somewhat Helpful
I don't hike on a regular basis, but I do love it as a form of exercise
      Pilates Working / Worked
I've never stuck with it long enough to get the body, but it feels so good to have a strong core.
      Running Working / Worked
This is great and inexpensive, and my dog loves it too! But, the impact on my knees wasn't so hot.
      Yoga Working / Worked
I love yoga and power yoga just feels so great. It works everything builds strength is cardiovascular and increases flexibility. I love that it does so much in one workout.
    • Open Healthy Eating

I have strong opinions in that I KNOW how to eat healthy, but I supplement my healthy eating habits with a LOT of junk, so I need help in eliminating the unhealthy.

      Treatments

      Physical Exercise Working / Worked
    • Open Sciatica

First time with sciatica - it started in early November 2008. Classic case, apparently, from what the nurse said.
