    • About Me

Happily married to supportive husband, mother of 3 adult children (2 sons/1 daughter...No grandchildren yet). I work as a Paraprofessional in a High School Behavior Intervention Program. My second job is as a respite/child assistance worker in a theraputic foster home working with same type of at risk youth. I lost my youngest son, Daren (age 19) due to a tragic work related accident.

      Treatments

      Crying Working / Worked
Crying does relieve stress and welled up emotion. I prefer to cry privately, but sometimes I cannot hold back my grief.
      DailyStrength Working / Worked
My lifeline! ForMomsOnly group here on DS is my lifeline. The compassion, love & understanding are vital to my being.
      Grief Counseling Somewhat Helpful
Insurance does not offer grief counseling...Compassionate Friends helpful
      Keeping Busy Somewhat Helpful
Work, finally can read a little for pleasure...very hard to stay focused
      Massage Working / Worked
Friends and family have paid for massage and relaxation spa treatments
      Music Working / Worked
I use music for a variety of things...relaxation, emotional release, and distraction
      Pets Working / Worked
2 golden labs sense my sadness and try to soothe me...sometimes in the early days they are what got me out of bed.
      Prayer Working / Worked
I prayed regulaily before this, but since it is a way of life...I pray for strength, guidence, wisdom
      Psychotherapy Considering
I am a very private person, so this is a hard one for me. But I am willing to pursue if needed.
      Reading Working / Worked
Mostly self help for the longest time and still do--mostly about grief and rebuilding your life. just now reading for pleasure...hard to stay focused on this though...
      Remembering Working / Worked
It soothes my soul when others tell me of my child...just them saying his name, acknowledging his existance means so much. I have others who don't and I feel so isolated.
      Scrapbooking Considering
This has been difficult, but as the 1 year mark passes I hope to be better able to handle this.
Support from Friends & Family Working / Worked
Would be lost without my closest friends...and my husband and children. My parents and sisters have left me disappointed, but I understand. My husbands family have been wonderful.
      Support Groups Working / Worked
DS is my main group. I have attended Compassionate Friends and would continue, but for the distance I must travel to attend meetings and schduleing between 2nd job makes it difficult. Joined several DS Moms from ForMomsOnly here on DS in Charleston for a retreat...WONDERFUL Women!
      Talking Working / Worked
I would love to do more of this, but find few who can stomach the heartache much less understand, some may be tired of listening.
      Time Working / Worked
I hate the cliche Time is a healer, but it is...as time goes by I am more clear in my thoughts and feelings--less numb--maybe numb is good?!
      Writing Working / Worked
My salvation...keeps my head clear, a way to dump my garbage and a way to enlighten the burdeon in my soul.
    • Close The Financial Crisis

I am working 2 jobs, husband is working 1 1/2...times are tough...nearing mid 50's...worried about retirement funds and credit/loan availability, housing market/equity.
